Resistance Now In Print

I couldn't find it today. Not that it matters much right this moment since I still have the latest Vanguard and The Buried Age to read. And I won't get around to those for another couple of weeks.

not here either. I am annoyed too since I have a flight Monday and was looking forward to bringing it with me.

Hmmm. Called up my local Forbidden Planet and they said the earliest they might get it in would be next Tuesday but they can't tell me if they'll get it in then, but Amazon says 1-3 weeks delivery, so I'm torn.

I've still got The Good That Men Do and Reap the Whirlwind to read, so I can wait the three weeks for Amazon to send it, but part of me wants it now.

Anyway - anyone who's read it care to enlighten us on the makeup of the new command crew?

Worf as XO, a Vulcan (T'Lana ?) as Counselor, but who have we got at Ops, CONN and Security?

Worf as XO

I haven't read the book yet, but I'm really curious about something, given what authors have said so far and based on what fans are assuming.

Everyone who hasn't read the book seems to think automatically that Worf is 1st officer. But a while ago someone in the know said that who the 1st officer is, is a big plot-point in the book. Which to me means that while we do know that Picard chose Worf as his first pick for the job, it's not a guarantee that Worf actually ends up in that role. Granted I see it as highly likely that he will, but I'm wondering if this has actually been spoiled and it's a guarantee that Worf took the job or if everyone is simply assuming it due to the recent 'disagreements' over the mystical Madden character and the fact that Worf is the only known character that would even begin to fit the role.

Some of the local Borders has it. But I'm going to wait till next week and see if B&N has it as I have some credit with B&N.

I'm interested to see how good this book is as well, even though I won't even be reading regular TNG books for a while. The whole concept of a "relaunch" excites and fascinates me, and I hope this one is as successful as the DS9-R (and, to be fair, the Voy-R based on sales).

I just finished the book. I dont think Ive ever read a trek book so fast. I only bought it a few hours ago. Without giving anything away, I feel that it was a little too short, and a little too fastpaced. It has a very interesting twist in it involving picard which i won't mention in detail, for those who dont wished to be spoiled. Looking forward to Q&A and Before Dishonor even more now.

I thought the book was a must read but not a great read. It was a hard book to read because it is replacing familier faces (namely Data is not around anymore). You think they would learn after killing Kirk not to do that. I felt like it was a transition book and not on the level of IQ or Imzadi to name a few. This was the first TNG book I have read for at least 4 or so years (back when we had the old board going) and I have to say, I am looking forward to Before Dishonor which comes out in Novemeber. The small intro in Resistance was great but I am a big Peter David fan when he writes for TNG. Gotta read it but it was not great.

It took me about 8 hours to read and I am not a fast reader and that is fast for me. However, I thought the book drug out somewhat in places and was over the top on drama toward the end.

I still can't stand Janeway yet I watched Voyager to the end on TV. An admiral telling Picard where to go? Please. The Vulcan counselor never really won me over and Worf is the first officer. That should be called a mile away before reading the book. The ending was predictiable and that is ok but the whole fighting on the borg ship was a bit confusing and I totally didn't buy that they would not wake every borg possible to kill the away teams swiftly since the Borg are all reenergized for killing in this book. Geordi was no where to be found in this book except for a few mentions here and there. This book was about introducing a new counsoler as much as it was about Crusher's love for Picard.

I give it 3 out of 5.

I just picked up a copy today and am looking forward to reading it. Just one question though. Was it really necessary to replace Troi with another main character who is also ship's councellor? I mean, is there actually going to be enough of a "councelling" role for her to be doing? I mean, Troi served much more purpose in the role of Resident Betazed reading other people's thoughts on the viewscreen than at councelling people. I'm a bit surprised this was an angle the writers wanted to keep up.

I got a copy at Barnes & Noble today, although I almost couldn't find it because for whatever reason I keep assuming it was going to be a hardback. :o

It was originally commissioned as a hardcover, IIRC, and would have been released along with "Death in Winter"'s MMPB reprint, but when the celebratory TNG anniversary relaunch arc expanded to include KRAD's and PAD's novels, it was decided "Resistance" would likewise be a MMPB.

That must be it. Still, I have had to remind my several times over the past few months that it wasn't a hardback. :p

I picked it up today. About halfway through.

I'm curious, though. If you're going to run an excerpt for an upcoming book, wouldn't it have made more sense to run an excerpt for the next book in the sequence -- that being Q&A -- instead of the one that comes after that? The marketing acumen here escapes me, sadly.
