"Requiem for Methuselah" Line-by-Line

(Rayna collapses. McCoy checks for a pulse, finds none)

Flint (grief stricken): You... can't die!

Spock: She loved you, Captain. (Flint looks up) And you too, Mr. Flint. As a mentor, even as a father. There was not enough time for her to adjust to the awful power and contradictions of her newfound emotions. The joys of love made her human... and the agonies of love... destroyed her.

Spock: The epidemic is reduced and no longer a threat. The Enterprise is on course five one three mark seven, as you ordered.

KIRK: A very old and lonely man. And a young and lonely man. We put on a pretty poor show, didn't we? If only I could forget.

(He rests his head on his arms, on the desk. McCoy enters)

Bones: Oh those tricorder readings on Mister Flint are finally correlated. He's dying. See Flint in leaving Earth with all of it's complex fields in which he was formed sacrificed immortality. He'll live the remainder of a normal life span, then die.

McCoy: Yes, I told him myself. He intends to devote the remainder of his years and great abilities to the improvement of the human condition. And who knows what he might come up with.

McCoy: Well, I guess that's all. I can tell Jim later or you can. Considering his opponent's longevity, truly an eternal triangle. You wouldn't understand that, would you, Spock? You see, I feel sorrier for you than I do for him because you'll never know the things that love can drive a man to. The ecstasies, the miseries, the broken rules, the desperate chances, the glorious failures, the glorious victories. All of these things you'll never know simply because the word love isn't written into your book. Goodnight, Spock.

McCoy leaves, Spock walks up to Kirk and places his right hand on his face to initiate Mind-Meld.

Spock: Forget.

Oh no, absolutely not! Spock would never admit it to anyone, least of all McCoy, but Spock very well does know what McCoy was talking about and could probably relate to how Kirk was feeling. Anyone remember Leila Kailomi? (sp?) And Spock caused Kirk to forget (whatever it was, probably his love of Rayna) to spare him any more pain of his ordeal.
