'Requiem for Methuselah' - FLYNT - Most fleshed out villian on TOS?

Re: 'Requiem for Methuselah' - FLYNT - Most fleshed out villian on TOS

Well it is any Love Interest, be it: genuine love, past love, robot love, wham-bam-thank-you-spaceman love, for the good of the federation love, just because I can Love, to stop the Alien invasion love, the I'm bored Love,...

With the entire crew of the Enterprise about to die from Rigelian fever,.. hellava time to start trying to hump some other guys Fem-bot. LOL!

I don't mind so much that Flint was stronger, but it was just such a badly coordinated fight.

It's not as if either side really wanted to win it, though. Flint wanted to vent anger; Kirk wanted Flint to vent anger. If the fight really had been about rendering the opponent incapable of possessing Rayna, or whatever, then Kirk would obviously have done the same thing he did with Khan: grabbed a weapon that would give him the absolute upper hand. And Flint would have pulled one of his millennia-old fighting tricks out of his ancient sleeves, or simply told his mansion to kill Kirk and be done with it. Neither of those approaches would have served the ultimate goal of demonstrating machismo, though.

...And never mind that the wooing is what ultimately saved the disease victims?

"Love interest", my ass. This is the classic "Kirk talks a computer to death" plot instead.

Y'know, I could stomach the sudden love angle. i guess it can happen. But the obligatory fistfight at the end.

It wouldn't have been so bad if the fight wasn't so lame. It wasn't even a fistfight, it was "throw Kirk around" sort of thing. Watching Shatner geting his ass handed to him by James Daly in his Prince Valiant get-up was depressing. It should have remained a battle of wills, with less love and more arguing for Rayna's right to be free. But it's easy to do a hindsight rewrite 45 years later.

Well, to be fair, it was really Shatner's stunt double getting his ass handed to him by James Daly's stunt double. :D

He seems truly in love to me.
Which is rare, as noted above.
Do you see him as faking it? Why want her to die? Does that help the Ent crew survive?

Interesting.
