Renaming the Moon

Interestingly, the official IAU names are Moon, Earth, and Sun. Even the Milky Way's official name is just "Galaxy"
Aren't those the same twits who decide that Pluto is a "dwarf planet?"

Yeah, like they know anything.

No, not really. While earth (lower case e) is a term for soil, when using Earth or Terra to refer to the world the word means the globe itself.

And not "dirt."

Dear wife (Brazilian ) told me it was the same..dirt = terra--I can only go as I'm taught..

There is an online campaign to rename our Moon.

https://namethemoon.world/#/Facts-0

Since the word moon is a generic term used to refer to any natural satelite that orbits another celestial body of greater mass, there is an attempt to give a unique name to our moon.

Do you think our moon should be renamed ? if so what name it should have.
The Moon already has several perfectly good names.

Not just Sol, but Sol Invictus. Long live the Unconquerable Sun. :D
It'll be conquered in a few billion years when it runs out of fuel.

In the future, instead of being called Earthlings, we should be called Terrans or Earthers.
Who calls themself an Earthling anyway? ...Apart from Ricky Schroder, that is.
There's a moronic "journalist" who writes some really pathetic articles for CBC.ca who refers to people living on Earth as "Earthlings". The first time I saw this, I nearly fell off my chair, because it was an article about one of the lunar eclipses last year. The article meandered back and forth between lunar eclipses, solar eclipses (did you know that total solar eclipses are so rare that they only happen every 50, 100, or 1000 years?), and used an astrologer as a source.

I've actually seen a replacement name Ouranos or something similar to kill the jokes
"Ouranos" is Greek.

I realize that you're going for humor about this, but the fact is that our Sun will not last forever, and Earth certainly won't. That's why we really need to kick people out of their apathy - or in some cases, their antipathy - toward the space program. It won't matter one bit what name we give the Moon if there's nobody around to use it.

Oh, I understand, and am an advocate of NASA receiving greater funding.
