Renaming the Moon

There is an online campaign to rename our Moon.

Since the word moon is a generic term used to refer to any natural satelite that orbits another celestial body of greater mass, there is an attempt to give a unique name to our moon.

Do you think our moon should be renamed ? if so what name it should have.

 

Luna.

That's ALREADY its name, we just don't use it because we're idiots.

 

Our moon's name is Luna. Some call her Selene. I call her goddess.

 

Should we rename the Earth, too? It's a generic term that refers to dirt. It needs something unique.
How about ... oh, say, "Arret"?

 

It has a name, it's Luna. Just like the earth has a proper name of Terra.

 

I'm down with Luna.

 

Luna for Moon and Terra for Earth perhaps then.

Luna? Suuuuure. Next thing you'll be trying to tell me the Sun has a name too.

Not just Sol, but Sol Invictus. Long live the Unconquerable Sun.

 

In the future, instead of being called Earthlings, we should be called Terrans or Earthers.

 

Who calls themself an Earthling anyway? ...Apart from Ricky Schroder, that is.

 

There's something for the list of useless ideas.

 

The Earth would be "Gaia," and the moon would be "Lua."

Something more poetic than "sphere of light" for the sun would be great, we should work on that.

Interestingly, the official IAU names are Moon, Earth, and Sun. Even the Milky Way's official name is just "Galaxy".

 

They should rename Uranus as Bumhole as suggested on Spitting Image.
