Renaissance Class Starship - USS Hornet

The Renaissance Class starship has always fascinated me. One of that class of ships, the USS Hornet, was often mentioned or represented on a tactical display, but never actually seen. It featured briefly in the TNG comics, which is where most of my reference material came from. It was described as essentially a USS Voyager secondary hull combined with Constitution class saucer.

I took those elements and ran with it, using the basic shapes and combining them with Voyager and Galaxy class aesthetics. The result I feel is potentially the first of the Intrepid type designs (such as the Intrepid and Nova classes). A precursor to the later, sleeker vessels. A smaller ship than the galaxy class, but designed to punch above it's weight and be extremely durable. If the Voyager was the Lexus of starships, then this would be the Toyota!

I'm generally more of an art guy than a writer, so if anyone out there knows the capabilities of the ship or fancies doing a write-up of the specs I'd be very interested in hearing from you!

Yeah, the TMP Constitution class saucer mixed with an Intrepid secondary hull made no sense whatsoever (although it would have made a great kitbash for the Dominion war, lol.) Your take on the design is far superior.

Thank you! Yes I instead chose to add Voyager hull details to the circular saucer section, Enterprise-D details to the warp nacelles and navigational deflector and generally kept the secondary hull to the Voyager configuration, adding a TMP era fantail design to the shuttle bay.

If that popped up at the battle of Wolf 359, it would fit right in! Amazing work!
Thank you! I might create some artwork to that effect. I thought about contacting JTFX but it seems like he's had a lot on his plate lately and is pretty much wrapped up with his project now.

The bridge of the Renaissance Class starships was revamped when the class underwent a total refit in the late 2360's. This new bridge design, although compact, was state-of-the-art for it's time and would later be enlarged and expanded upon for the new Intrepid Class cruisers.
