The Renaissance Class starship has always fascinated me. One of that class of ships, the USS Hornet, was often mentioned or represented on a tactical display, but never actually seen. It featured briefly in the TNG comics, which is where most of my reference material came from. It was described as essentially a USS Voyager secondary hull combined with Constitution class saucer.
I took those elements and ran with it, using the basic shapes and combining them with Voyager and Galaxy class aesthetics. The result I feel is potentially the first of the Intrepid type designs (such as the Intrepid and Nova classes). A precursor to the later, sleeker vessels. A smaller ship than the galaxy class, but designed to punch above it's weight and be extremely durable. If the Voyager was the Lexus of starships, then this would be the Toyota!
I'm generally more of an art guy than a writer, so if anyone out there knows the capabilities of the ship or fancies doing a write-up of the specs I'd be very interested in hearing from you!
