Some horrible news to report. Lung cancer. He was aged 79.
He will be missed.
Made the character his own.
What horrible news.
He was a great actor and person, and he will be missed dearly by friends, family, and we fans.
Thank you for bringing such an amazing and unique character to life.
Oh, fucking hell. No, goddammit.
I dont have any words for this loss. RIP you legend!
Very sad news
Odo...end of watch. So sad. Rest in peace René.
Damn. My heart is breaking. RIP :-(
only spotted this earlier on the news.
fucking cancer, horrible
First saw him in the movie MASH in 1970 and then, a year later, in the "Camera Obscura" segment of Night Gallery with Ross Martin. A great actor, even in Boston Legal.
Was absolutely shocked when I saw the news, so glad I met him once at a con. He’ll be missed.
RIP Rene, your performance as Odo will be remembered for eternity.
This is terrible
He was so wonderful
I am stunned.
He played one of the greatest characters in all of Star Trek (and one of my favorites) and he was excellent in everything else I saw him in. Never got to meet him in person but he seemed like a lovely human being. RIP
☹️ Rene was one of the first Trek actors I met when I started collecting autographs. I gave him the wrong date when he signed and he said that's ok, he wouldn't tell anyone and we'd just pretend he signed it the day before. Goodbye ☹️
RIP René. I’ve been rewatching DS9 for the last couple of months and only finished watching his great performance alongside Nana Visitor in “Shadows and Symbols” about half an hour before a friend messaged me the news.
It takes a great actor to be able to visibly act through a thick layer of prosthetics, and René managed it in 170 episodes every time.
Also loved him in Boston Legal.
