Remembering A Fistful of Datas

All right, but if it turns out you don't like ``The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance'' or ``Shane'' --- or ``High Noon'', come to think of it --- we're going to have a very hard time staying friends.

 All right, I'll try really hard to be more patient with those than I was with the other ones and let you know what I think when I've seen them.

That said, I didn't like ``A Fistful Of Datas'' because oh, man, holodeck malfunction yet another freaking time? And with Alexander all over it? Why not throw in Lwuxana Troi and the emergency holographic Joe Piscopo and be done with it?
As I asked someone else, this just prompts me to wonder - was it really impossible for you to just set aside the redundancy of the premise and simply appreciate the episode for what it does do that's original? I didn't like those Lwaxanna and Piscopo holodeck episodes either, but I thought this one was a lot more fun and clever.

Yes, the premise of holodeck malfunction was way overused and made everyone look stupid by being used again (I agree, by season 6 they should have had that fixed for good after all the episodes in previous scenes with the same dilemma), but this doesn't change the fact that the episode is still full of wonderful character moments.

One more thing (if it doesn't seem too much on the egotistical side)... One thing that's always bugged me is that, despite this episode's "fan favorite" status, I've never found any fanfics that so much as mention the events of "A Fistful of Datas." Well, I give it a nod or two in the story ("When in Rome") that I'm putting up in pieces on the Fanfiction board. (Since it's taking longer than I expected to format it properly for a message board, it may take a day or two to get it all there.) It's a Troi fic.

Iruka

Worf: For the love of Kahless! Counselor Troi has seized control of the Romulan Warbird!

Picard: Oh, sure. And I suppose Saudi Arabia won the Olympic Ice Hockey gold?
