"Miri" was a bonus given to the syndicates this week to promote the new TOS versions. But isn't part of the "regular" cycle of the episodes. Infact, Miri isn't "officaly" supposed to air for quite sometime.
Depending on your local station's scheduling they may have simply opted to not air Miri this weekend (since this is BoT's week to be aired.)
You know, given that the airing of these episodes is being so strictly controled, only one episode/week on the weekends, it's pretty much like airing the episodes all over again (although it'll run through the summer.)
Which means any potential "new viewers" are going to see the episodes all out of wack. Not that there's a whole lot of contnuity in TOS, but airing the episodes in production order certainly would've been more benifical to new viewers.

I also believe that they did redo McCoy's transition back to normal, cause it looked to fluid and smooth to be from back then. Back then it would have been frame by frame shot and looked jumpy and out of place.

So, where I live, we only got BoT, twice. Once on sat and again on sun. Does this mean I will get Miri next sat or did I just skip Miri?

IMO, it was a strange choice. it doesn't have a lot of FX options, does it?
I'm glad they're bothering to redo more than just the exterior effects. This bodes well for a decent transformation of the salt monster in The Man Trap. None of that 'the background is changing too' thanks! Perhaps they'll do a proper shape morph!paustin said:
ok the definitive answer (i loaded and watched the sequence from dvd)they did redo it, the original was pretty good but Nimoys hand position moved slightly from shot to shot

Quite true!Christopher said:
Besides, the Salt Vampire wasn't actually a shapeshifter, it was an illusion-caster. It projected false images into people's minds (as proven when three men simultaneously saw it as three different women). So it'd be thoroughly misguided to do its transformations by morphing (an effect which rarely looks realistic anyway because it's 2-dimensional).

Everyone seems to be assuming that this is all about the new effects. It isn't. It's about remastering the episodes, making new copies off the original master print and audio tracks in order to achieve the highest quality and fidelity possible. The only reason the new digital effects were done was because a direct remastering of the old effects shots still didn't live up to HDTV standards, so they had to take another tack. Since most TOS episodes were light on opticals, the new footage rarely amounts to more than a minute or so per episode.
However, in terms of why they were chosen to air in this order, "Balance of Terror" was no doubt chosen because it was an FX-heavy episode, so they did want to showcase that at least once. As for why "Miri" was included as a preview, if the effects were a factor at all in that decision, I'd assume it was to show off the new Earth shots.
