Remaking the Daleks

Davros should have died after Genesis. It was a good ending. Better for the Daleks, better for Davros' story.

Although I liked how he was handled in New Who. They seemed to blindly follow him, but it was actually apparent he was as much a prisoner as everyone else.

He was introduced to give the Daleks a new voice. They wouldn't have wasted him by just using him in Genesis

Genesis Of The Daleks was also meant to be the last Dalek story. And in the end he wasn't much a voice for the Daleks since he was always going his own way and doing his own thing.

Genesis was an origin story. Davros was supposed to be a compelling villain who is destroyed by his own creations in the end. I don't think the Daleks need a voice. They can communicate just fine on their own.

ZOMG!! I must own this outfit! That's going to be my prom dress no doubt!

My favorite Daleks was from the episode Dalek. They made that one Dalek seem terrifying and menacing and badder than they'd ever been. Then they turned into what they used to be - a nuisance and an overused one at that. I think they made a mistake with those armies of Daleks...that should always be an unseen threat - because just ONE is all it takes. Having the Doctor vacuum them all up into wormholes and stuff - bah!

I think that episode could have been turned into a better season 1 final than we got.

I want the Daleks to be a cunning, manipulative, Machiavellian force of nature that spends much of its time in the shadows, manipulating whole worlds, and the Doctor, in order to advance their own goals. I want the Doctor, and the audience, to always wonder if there are Dalek suckers at work even when they don’t feature in an episode. I want the Doctor to occasionally defeat his enemies little realising that he’s just a small cog in a larger Dalek plan, and I want the Doctor to only ever be able to win skirmishes, never the war, and I never, ever want to see him wipe out every last one of a squillion Daleks by flipping some switches, ever again!

I don't think Moffat would stoop that low. How could Davies write that ending and think it was good?

The Daleks in the finale were fine when they were going floor to floor killing people. It's when they stopped to talk to the Doctor that there were issues (and the ending, of course). To me, the best Dalek episodes are ones where Daleks are in a place of absolute control. Dalek Invasion of Earth is a good example. They're hiding from the Daleks, trying to fight them and failing, etc. There should be no defeat of the Daleks within minutes of finding them. That's also why they should be encountered in space, where escape from the Daleks can sometimes be its own reward.

Yes I agree. I recently watched the end of the first Dalek episode it can be forgiven for its time period for killing off the Daleks. Much more suspenseful and interesting than many recent episodes.

Personally I like the new Daleks. First they're BIG. I always felt as Daleks gained more power they should increase in size and it always felt weird that everybody looked down at the most powerful beings in the universe.
I disagree. I loved seeing those little bastards trundling around shooting everyone in sight. The RTD Dalek design is actually the perfect design for those little gits.

The Daleks scream originality, but if you make them big you may as well give them legs, arms, a face and turn them into some generic monster.

The original Daleks looked so tall. I was actually shocked by that, since RTD Daleks seemed short when I first saw them. Does anyone know how they compare with actual height? I like tall Daleks as well. To me, it reminds me there's something inside, although I don't know why it does.

As far as I can tell, they're about the same height!

RTD Daleks were designed at a specific height to allow Billie to look them in the eye stalk. Nu Daleks have been designed in part with Karen more in mind.

In the case of the Daleks return. I reckon Moff has a big return in the works. Wont be some piss poor RTD style ep. It will be big and unexpected.

I know Moff wont, but I hope we have no Gangster/Dalek hybrid. OMFG that was so frickin hilarious.

Thought it was Smith they were thinking of? In anycase, theyre both roughly the same height so it doesnt really matter.
