Remaking the Daleks

The Daleks on the old show were far more powerful then have been recently, they were the first of the Doctor's enemy races to gain the power of time travel. And they were fighting wars on several fronts. They even scared the Times Lords enough to send the Doctor back to destroy them. The major idffernce now is that we can see thousands of Daleks onscreen now.

I disagree even. Even at the height of their power they never could directly oppose the Time Lords. Their time traveling technologies were also pretty limited since they could only send a few Daleks at a time and they could not travel through both time and space (only time).

In "Dalek", the Doctor is pretty clear that a single Dalek could destroy an entire city and could wipe out whole armies. They also seemed to have mastered both time travel and even basic Time Lord technologies .

And yet the Time Lords forsaw a future where the Daleks were the dominant race in the universe and ordered the Doctor to take them out which is what started the Time War in the first place.

I don't disagree with that but it was only a possibility until the Time War. The classic series they were never shown to reach that level (thanks to Davros and the Dalek Civil War). Even Big Finish knows that it's a creative dead end to make them as powerful as they were during the Time War.

I don't know. The most recent appearance of the Daleks in the eighth Doctor range has the Daleks trying to fly the Earth around in time to shoot plagues at people. It's like a combination of The Dalek Invasion of Earth and "Journey's End' with extra stupidity and less emotional resonance.

I think a story where the Doctor has to stop four badass Daleks on a colony planet/spaceship (so you don't know if the Daleks will win or not) would be awesome.

Barring that, they could just bring back the mentally stunted Dalek and the coughing Dalek from The Chase.

I miss the good old days where you could grab them and fling them half way across the road into something dangerous.:)

WTF? Lucy Miller and the Doctor's grandson died during that story. Yeah I agree it was extra stupid but it was pretty emotional nonetheless. Plus they only accomplished what they did with the help of the Meddling Monk and a Dalek time controller from the future.

Except the colony/spaceship that's basically the plot of Daleks in Manhattan.

Finally get rid of those scooterchair/dildo shells and replace them with exact replicas of Amy.

With a plunger...somewhere. :shifty:

I'm just being mean, I know. The Lucie stuff was good, though they sure brushed over what happened to Alex. Not even Susan cared.

The Dalek plan, though, was just stupid.

So if you take out everything but the Doctor and the Daleks, it's the same story? Well, yes. And with "Daleks in Manhattan" you knew the Doctor was gonna win because no Dalek army ever overran Central Park in the 1930s. (Also, I said "badass Daleks," not "the Cult of Skaro and the Pig Men.")

I want the RTD Daleks to own the power ranger Daleks, thats about it. I don't mind them changing up the RTD design since that design was nothing more than an update for the 21st century. Maybe some new colours, the red dalek in journeys end looked baller as fuck.

I rather likee Phillip Segal's Spider-Dalek idea it certainly looked more manacing then the current iDalek design from Victory Of The Daleks.

I am not sure if it is the colors or the shape that bothers me most about the new ones.

Personally I like the new Daleks. First they're BIG. I always felt as Daleks gained more power they should increase in size and it always felt weird that everybody looked down at the most powerful beings in the universe. Second I like the new caste system and it may lead to stories about the different interactions the Doctor has with each of the different factions (especially the scientist and the mysterious eternal Daleks)

I remember not liking the white Imperial Daleks and the Time war era bronze Daleks but they both grew on me, so I'm not going to complain about the color.

I thought the size was fine all that powere packed into a small space. I liked the new Dalek eyes they did.

Didn't Moffat say they'll still be using the 2005 design for basic "grunt" Daleks and only have the paradigm for "officer" Daleks?

Just rewatching the first Dalek episode. How much things have changed took them 10 mins to cut through a door. Great episode you can see why they became so popular.

Davros should have died after Genesis. It was a good ending. Better for the Daleks, better for Davros' story.

Although I liked how he was handled in New Who. They seemed to blindly follow him, but it was actually apparent he was as much a prisoner as everyone else.
