Registration Mark: NCC - 1701

If the Enterprise was built later than it was supposed to have been why was it's reg still 1701? It wasn't carrying on any previous Enterprises registration mark like the Ent-D did etc so it's reg should have corresponded to which number ship it was when constructed.

Probably because the 17xx series always was the Costitution class series. And you don't know when the concept first appeared on he drawing board. It probably was around the same time as in the prime universe what underwent considerably more changes along the way. But of course it kept it`s registry anyway.

It doesn't make sense why it would be designed at the same time as the original timeline and yet not be constructed for another 13 or so years. Also the fact it's designed differently makes the impression it was designed by a different team and at a different time. ;)

It's a boo boo in my eyes but I can live with it.

You're kidding right? Honestly?

If they changed the registation, the canon whores (who I now compaire to the little annoying creatures in Gears of War) would have a complete field day.

And for you, I'll make a simple explination as to why it's still 1701. It's the fucking Enterprise!

But still, you don't know how long it was being built for, they probably assign registray numbers when they start to design it. (Starfleet I mean).

How do we know the numbers are done in order?

Were other ships delayed as well?

I don't know... I don't know if anyone really knows. I think 1701 was used because it's iconic. It wouldn't be the enterprise without 1701.

I don't give a crap about canon and yet changing the NCC-1701 would have miffed me quite a bit... But, didn't happen, so no worries!

My theory: The keel may have been laid at the same time as in the original timeline and construction commenced. During that time, all the "new technologies" developed from the Kelvin data started coming on line and Starfleet started incorporating them into the new ship. This led to one or more rebuilds of the entire ship, similar to the TOS/TMP rebuild.

The registry numbers have never made any sense. Anyone who says otherwise is talking nonsense.

Its a bunch of numbers.

Real-worldly - I seem to remember it being Matt Jeffries 17th attempt at a design, but in the Star Trek world there has never been any explanation of how they work. If he had changed the number, Abrams would have been set on fire by an angry pointy-eared wearing mob.

That only works if you ignore the upscaling of the new ship.

I thought 1701 was the registry on Jeffries' plane.

Something tells me that the upscaling is a myth created by non-canon sites. While there may not be a set size spec in canon, yet, I don't think JJ Abrams is dumb enough to have the ship scaled to a size where giants can walk the decks (decks indicated by window placement) or entire swaths of the ship being windowless.

It HAD to be NCC-1701, otherwise Nero, being from the prime timeline would not have recognized the Enterprise as being the ship containing the object of his hate, namely Spock.

Do we really know 1701 is the first ship of the class in the new timeline? If not, I'll do some goofy speculation that the first 2 digits in the registration number suffix are indicitave of class in the new timeline, making the Consitution class ship the 17th ship class build by the Federation. (Second build if the Constitution is NCC-1700.)

Again, sheer speculation in order to make a ficticious history match great story-telling, but there it is. :)

Because STXI is a movie. Too many things in this movie don't jive with series, even taking into account a timeline change. It was a movie made by a profit-driven corporation. Best to accept that it's different.

I would tell you that they named the registry after me, but you guys wouldn't accept the truth anyway.
