Redo the Friday's Child Klingon ship?

With the new CGI, how do you think they'll do the Klingon ship the Enterprise fought in Friday's Child? Since its a ship that almost nobody thinks about, do you think they'll change it (or spice it up a bit?).

For other possible changes, my reaction would be that they wouldn't, but this is one I'm not so sure about.

And, as a second question, would you like it to be changed, or should it look how it did originally?

I'm kind of torn about this one. When it comes to other ships, I used to be a little disappointed with this effect along with the Orion vessel in Journey to Babel and the cruiser Aurora in The Way to Eden. But I've also come to appreciate the concept of artistic integrity and viewing these episodes as originally aired.

I'm sure I'll watch it if TPTB make these changes, but I suspect that my imagination has probably served me better over the years than any literal representation.

I'm of two minds as well. Or actually three.

1) It is actually fairly realistic that optical imagery of fellow or enemy starships would be fuzzy at best, mere colored dots at worst.

2) OTOH, it would be a great chance to utilize either the ENT BoP or the TFS BoP for both "Friday's Child" and "Errand of Mercy". Or a special "TOS BoP" could also be introduced for these two episodes.

3) Then again, Klingons traditionally operate under cloak. And from ENT we know that cloaks are fairly old news. And when our heroes get caught with their pants down in "Errand of Mercy", it would be logical to assume the attacker emerged from under cloak. Perhaps we should see semi-cloaked smudges rather than discernible ships - that would be a good compromise between the facts that a) our heroes were surprised and the Klingons should already have cloaks, and that b) complete invisibility was shockingly new to Kirk and pals in "Balance of Terror"...

I'd rather not bring cloaks into the debate. However, the idea that the color surrounding it could disguise the ship could have been used to disguise what type of ship it is (since the Orion ship, which was entirely a big ball of color, was able to hide its appearance).

I do think its possible to go undetected even if you aren't cloaked, though, so the Errand of Mercy ship didn't have to be cloaked.

The idea of a BoP type ship would make sense. It certainly was never as powerful as a Battlecruiser, since they backed down so easily from the fight. There was sort of a ship in the light, though, if you look carefully, so they might actually try to make something with it

This is one case that I am genuinely curious what they decide to do (and I don't think I'd be bitter with any result they come up with).

Hell, no. No retconning whatsoever.

Here it is:

Looks like the Earth-2 Flash's helmet.

Make it a BoP. "Enterprise" had them.

If they are going to create a new "scout" class Klingon vessel, it had better look like it came from the TOS era. Small (pun intended) resemblance to the D7 Battlecruiser is a must. I've seen a lot of TOS Fans cook up some non-canon TOS era vessels that show a loving admiration for the show and to both Wah Chang and Matt Jefferies.

I'm speaking, of course, of wonderful websites like:

The Starfleet Museum

I don't know. I'm also of two minds about it. On one hand, it would be really cool to see more of a ship there. On the other hand, I fear the precedent of changing a lot of elements in TOS.

I suppose my answer is, "Yes, if it was done well."

I don't know if we have any CGI artists here, but it would be nice to see what this:

...would even look like if it was at all possible to make a CGI model out of it.

There is no reason it couldn't be a ship other than the D7. It could be a scout ship of some kind. I would think that they would go with a D7 though.

Friday's Child and Errand of Mercy would definitely benefit from the new CGI. In Errand of Mercy, we know that the Federation task force and the Klingon task force are on the verge of a battle before the Organian interference. The new CGI can actually show the two fleets.

with a little imagination, i always thought that splotch of colored light from "Friday's Child" could pass as a Klingon BOP with it's wing's swept up (and heading into the left side of the screen). The shape is also somewhat reminiscent of a Romulan BOP; maybe the sfx's guys were getting their aliens confused.

I don't think it's going to happen. They're sticking to the show as edited, as in they're not adding any scenes, just fixing the existing ones.

Since there wasn't a shot of the two fleets going at it in the original, they're not going to do one. Adding the scene would go against their mandate.

I say redue it. Why not? That would be complementing an otherwise unimaginative, (no-money) visual effect.

I have a feeling though that we won't see alot of stock footage shots. They did say they would add a few new angles and so forth. But I doubt very much that you'd see new shots being added where FX didn't presently exist.

They say no new shots in the edit. They won't cut the film to add an fx shot.

They have admitted that tey will replace some of stock shots (though all of hte stock shots will be updated), so that some episodes can have original effects.

Now in Errand of Mercy was there ever a stock shot of the Enterprise by herself, when they were in combat with the Klingons?

Because if so they could update that with a new shot that feature moth Federation and Klingon ships (though I don't know how brave they would be in showing different classes of vessels ). That might open a huge can of worms with the fans.
