Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charles

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

You know, I think Quarantine was one of the first episodes I saw. That is, a relative of mine showed me the first season one weekend I spent at their house, then about a month later I discovered that PBS had Red Dwarf on weeknights. I tuned in and Quarantine was the episode that was on. From that point on, I was hooked on Red Dwarf.

^ Oh yeah, it's one of my top 10 for sure. It's right in the heart of that amazing Series 3-5 run.

Wow, I can't believe it's happening so soon. Well, let's see if they can do better the second time around.

This is good news or Mr. Flibble would have had to fry you with his Hex vision. :p

Can't wait! Any word on whether it'll air in the U.S.? I'm hoping that the episode titled "The Beginning" doesn't mean that it's the end!

^^No word on airdates outside of the UK, but as mentioned earlier in the thread, the season will have a worldwide DVD/Blu-Ray release in November, so it's not like anyone outside the UK will have to wait too long to watch it through legal means.

Well, the first episode being "The End" doesn't sound all that promising..

Man, I seem to remember the Dwarfers having a LITTLE more in the armory before, but hey, it HAS been quite some time.

Try comparing it to other British shows which also started in 1988...

Not all of those were serials. Some were one-offs. Some of those like the Beiderbeck Connection were excellent. Your list of shows that might have been recomissioned is no different that year than any other.

Don't get me wrong. I still admire you for watching all the new shite so nobody else has to watch it but unless you're very old indeed or completely anal you didn't see half of those shows you listed.

Of course it is worth pointing out whilst the grand-daddy of TV Sci-Fi celebrates it's 50th Anniversary next year, Red Dwarf will mark it's 25th Anniversary. Hopefully with Red Dwarf XI.

That list on a website. They have a similar list for new shows every year since tv started. And a second list which i didn't provide for the other shows that were airing that year.

I actually put the wrong year down first since I've always felt that Red Dwarf started in '89, but maybe this is about when production started more so that airing?

As I was a child at the time living in a colony I hadn't seen most of the listed TV. I've heard of 8 of those shows including Red Dwarf, and only had positive memories for about half of them.

My point was that most TV is shit, cancelled and forgotten.

They recently put up some desktop and iPhone wallpapers for the new series on the official website.

Saw Red Dwarf University Challenge the other day.

I had to laugh.

I Believe Red Dwarf premiered in 1988

Yep. Wikipedia says "The End" first aired on February 15, 1988.

^ Wow. A quarter of a century next February, then. That's a big smegging deal. Dallas aside, it's difficult to think of a scenario where a group of characters returned to a franchise so long after being there at its original inception.
