Joanne Linville's daughter Amy Rydell played the part on STC and its amazing how close the resemblance (And acting) is. It could be done.
I didn't realize that was her daughter. I noted the uncanny resemblance, and thought they did an amazing casting job.

Fiddlesticks. The female form could be explained by the shape of the suit. I don't recall Spock referring to the RA as "she," but that would be harder to explain away.
