Recasting TNG

Let me preface this with the notion that I DO NOT think there should be a TNG reboot, I am not suggesting it, I don't think it's a good idea.

That said...

Having the TOS characters recasted for Star Trek (2009) got me thinking about who would be cast in a Star Trek: The Next Generation reboot.

I really only have a couple suggestions. Rachel Nichols as Dr. Beverly Crusher. And (I know everyone will think scream canon violation due to his age, but...) Michael Rosenbaum as Jean-Luc Picard.

Any suggestions for Riker, Data, Troi, Worf, Geordi, Yar, or Wesley?

I am so out of it as far as how much actors/actresses have aged since they came to my attention but ...

I've always like Alan Rickman and I think he could pull off a Jean Luc Picard - even if he isn't french.

Ethan Hawke could be a decent Riker - he pulls off "self-righteous" pretty well, but is able to have an 'understands human nature' side as well.

Data - no one. Brent Spinner owned that role.

...
I'll have to think about the others for a while.

Picard - Timothy Dalton
Riker - Gerard Butler
Data - Brent Spiner
Worf - Michael Clarke Duncan
LaForge - Don Cheadle
Crusher - Natascha McElhone
Troi - Audrey Tautou

Picard - Timothy Dalton sounds good to me
Riker - Ed Quinn (Nathan Stark from Eureka)
Data - Paul Goddard (Stark from Farscape)
Worf - Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Echo from Lost)
Troi - Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun from Farscape)
Crusher - Torri Higginson (Elizabeth Weir from Stargate Atlantis)
Yar - Sharon Taylor (Amelia Banks from Stargate Atlantis)

Tomalak - Marc Alaimo (Dukat)
Gowron - Jeffrey Combs (Shran, Weyoun, Brunt...but you already knew that)

I've had to google a lot of the actors in these recasting threads so I thought I'd make it easier for the rest of you... :)

Oh damn, making us choose between Marc Alaimo and Andreas Katsulas is just sadistic...

A remake of TNG for a contemporary audience.

Colin Farrell plays Jean-Luc Picard as a chain-smoking, expletive-ridden, Guinness-drinking, Shakespeare-quoting Frenchman. This Jean-Luc is much more of an 'action man' quite comfortable with getting his hands dirty torturing, kidnapping etc to keep the Federation safe from its enemies. At the end of every episode Picard will blast a foe with his rifle and then finish with a new catchphrase from Shakespeare every week.

Sarah Jessica Parker plays Commander Shelby as a strong, career-driven modern woman whose ambition in life is to find Mr Right, get married, live in a nice house, have 'kids' and live happily ever after.

Matt Lucas plays Dr. Beverly Crusher. A single mother of eight children - two Humans, a Martian, a Cardassian, a Klingon, a Jedi, a Romulan and one of an unknown species. Comes from a planet that is just one big enormous council estate. Wears tracksuits and is romantically linked to Picard.

Eddie Izzard plays proud Klingon warrior Lieutenant Worf as a tormented soul trying desperately to reconcile his warrior heritage with his transvestism.

Christian Bale plays the android Lieutenant Commander Data. His brain can perform 38 thousand trillion operations per second. He devotes all of his recreational time to playing World of Warcraft and updating his profile on Facebook. Due to an accident online Data's 'Angry Chip' was permanently and irreversibly infused into his neural net and as a result will often be heard threatening to kick Wesley's f^**in a$$. Christian Bale will bleach his skin to play Data. Data has no wish to be human whatsoever and finds the idea of being human physically, mentally, morally and spiritually horrifying.

Matthew Broderick plays Wesley Crusher as a cool, hip, fun-loving, rebellious, wise-cracking teen.

Selected episode summary.

The Drumhead.
Excessive use of internet porn causes a hull breach on the Enterprise. An Admiral is sent from Starfleet to investigate. CCTV springs up in every deck, all communication devices are monitered, everyone has to carry an ID Card and all Starfleet internet usage is recorded. Nobody seems to care except for Picard who valiantly stands up against this un-democratic, Soviet-inspired devastation of privacy, decency and civil liberties. Eventually Picard is put on trial whereupon information concerning a home-made adult film starring Picard is exposed...

Wesley Crusher's Day Off.
Wesley takes the day off from the comm and gets up to all kinds of fun hijinx...

Titan.
A few days in the life of the USS Titan's Captain Riker and Consellor Troi, played by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. Cameras follow the Riker family as they compete with each other to see who can degrade themselves the most...

The Best of Both Worlds.
Picard leads the Enterprise on a pre-emptive attack on Betazed in a desperate race against Betazed destroying the Federation. Betazed is rased and compassionately rebuilt with 24th century concentration camps, new oil infrastructure and fast-food restaurants. Eventually the Borg arrive and destroy this entire pathetic human being disaster, or does the indomitable human spirit prevail???...

I'm sticking with young/youngish TV actors for the recasting since those are the ones that would get the jobs in the unlikely event that it ever happened, with a particular eye for genre actors who already have a following. TV shows love actors that can bring an audience with them. I'll give IMDB links to my more obscure selections.

Picard - Wentworth Miller
Data - Alan Tudyk or Zachary Levi (whichever one doesn't get the gig will get a fun recurring role as a Harry Muddish space huckster instead :D)
Riker - Taylor Kinney (a former hunk of the week on The Vampire Diaries)
Crusher - Laura Prepon
Worf - Jason Momoa (after the Conan debacle, it might be back to TV for him, even if it's not his fault :()
Troi - Morena Baccarin
LeForge - Alphonso McAuley (likeable nerd of Breaking In)
Yar - Katee Sackhoff
Wesley - Thomas Dekker (but he couldn't be Dr. Crusher's son since she'd be too young; she can be his big sister)

No, no and no again!

I hate the idea of the TNG characters being played by other actors than Stewart, Frakes etc.

If they can't come up with a new series, new characters and new ideas instead of "re-booting", then they should just call it a day and quit.

Picard, Data and Riker were just perfect. I don't know if anyone could ever replace them.

This.

The cast were perfect as is. No one else, and I mean NO ONE ELSE other than

Patrick Steward
Johnathan Franks
LeVar Burton
Michael Dorn
Gates McFadden
Marina Sirtis
and Brent Spiner

should be playing the roles of

Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Commander William Riker
Lt. Comm Geordi LaForge
Lieutenant Worf
Doctor Beverly Crusher
Commander Deanna Troi
and Lt. Comm Data

There's nothing particularly sacred about the TNG characters. Only Data is iconic. The reason TNG might be rebooted is just because it gives CBS the illusion of being a safe thing. If that's what CBS needs in order to sign on the dotted line, then give it to them! It's meaningless anyway.

The producers don't have to pay any more attention to TNG than Ron Moore paid to BSG. That way, TNG fans won't feel slighted if the guy named Picard has nothing to do with the original other than the name. Either watch the show because you like it, or ignore it if you don't. Same as with any other show on TV.

Picard - Liam Neeson or Gary Oldman
Data - Jake Gyllenhaal
Riker - Guy Pearce
Worf - Jason Mamoa
Troi - Freida Pinto
Crusher - Diane Lane
