Some of us might be calling this a reboot, but I really doubt they'd go that far.

That said, I have no idea who would play Khan. I can't picture him as anyone other than Ricardo Montelban.

True..though I read they were going to use Edward James Omos had Montebalm not taken the role...
I think you're confusing this with Nimoy's desire to cast Olmos as Kruge for ST3.

Yeah, in 1967 Olmos was 20 and not an actor.

Oh, you have to know that JJ might go there..why not? Khan is to Kirk as Joker is to Batman..and we all know it...

So, Kirk has been recasted...who do you see playing Khan if they go down that road?

Me.

More of a Joaquin type.

What about the bad guy from Iron man..the middle east dude? He was bad...And the bad guy from the Mummy, the bald guy..he was pretty bad ass too..

Rob

Naveen Andrews if you want someone who can be a serious, convincing ass-kicker who can be scary and charming in equal measure

Sendhil Ramamurthy if you're going for teh pretty and frak the talent portion of the competition. Plus he already is monkeying around with genetics in a disastrous manner, so he has a head start.

Can't wait for the Spock/Khan slash explosion! :rommie:

Sylvester Stallone would make an awesome Khan Noonien Singh! :bolian:
I can't believe that you of all people, who has railed about the lack of good roles for ethnic minorities, and in particular griped about Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's and Charlton Heston in Touch of Evil would suggest this even in jest.

And then there's just the fact that Sly would be AWFUL as Khan.

In reality, Sylvester Stallone is an ethnic American for he is not a WASP.

Sly's father is Sicilian from Sicily, Italy and his mother is Ashkenazi Jew.

Sly's swarthy appearance would allow him to convincingly portray a physically powerful man of middle eastern origin, for when I saw him as John Rambo in Rambo III, his physical appearance was ethnically indistinguishable from the Afghani men who were riding alongside him on horseback in that "dead goat football" game.

Anyone who can favor brains over brawn. One thing I never got Montalban was "superior intellect."

That's why Khan never worked for me. For starters, nothing he ever did ever suggested he was all that smart, then there's the whole body builder thing. I always thought Tim Zahn's excellent Thrawn character was cut from the cloth Khan should have been. Or Ender Wiggin.

As it turned out Khan was a freakin idiot who just happened to have big arms. Sly is the absolute WORST I could think of.

Actually, if I were to rewrite Khan I'd make him very weak physically. Seeing has how he was the original Augment, the science wasn't perfected when he was born. There for, they would have had to compensate is gene building to allow for his intelligence. Plus, something was bound to go wrong.

Also, one has to think spending two centuries in a cryogenic freeze would likely make him even more frail.

Ha, I can't tell if this is a joke or not, but Faran Tahir is in this Trek movie, as Captain Robau (sp?) of the USS Kelvin. The point being that Abrams wanted to make sure they put more "middle east dudes" in positive, non-villanous roles.

I forgot..in this new world order only fat white dudes from American who smoke and own guns and vote for republicans can be bad guys..what about Rush Limbaugh?

Rob

Well, that's one way of responding.

Another would have been "Oh, sorry, I didn't realize that 'middle east dude' actually had a name and was already in this new Trek movie."

You know, if you wanted to respond in a way that made you appear humble and not reactionary in the least.
