Peeps:

I did prefer the Riker-Troi dynamic more, but Worf-Troi came out of left field. I liked how they explained it in Parallels, that in the quantum realities where they were mates, it stemmed from the time Worf was paralyzed.

I also heard a weird story, that supposedly, some of the writers were fed up with Marina Sirtis complaining that she didn't have enough to do, so they paired her with the grotesque Worf as some kind of puerile revenge. Like, "OK, you want more to do? TAKE THAT!" LOL! It was a bit like Beauty & the Beast, however -- guess that's the dynamic they were going for.

Here's a weird thought: How about Geordi and Troi?

Troi and Geordi would of been odd, not because its bi racial. They just never had much even as just friends. There was no real interaction between the two.

Given that I preferred Worf/Troi but wasn't upset with the final pairing of Riker/Troi, I think a LaForge/Troi hook up would have been interesting just because of the emotional nature of Troi's role paired with the more tech role of LaForge.

I guess I just liked Worf/Troi because it was so unexpected and sorta humorous.

I dunno... R/T bores me... and I don't care for Troi/Worf either... so I guess "neither" is my response... however, if I were really forced to choose between these pairings, I'd go with R/T, just because it makes a little more sense.

However, there are these weird Picard/Troi thoughts in my head from time to time...

MrsPicard:

To your Picard/Troi thought: There is one "romantic" scene between Picard & Troi, although it's the evil Ardra taking Troi's form in Devil's Due, in an attempt to seduce him. His response is classic: "On the contrary, I find you obvious and vulgar."

And regarding part of your sig: I'm not a big Beverly Crusher fan, either -- that dumb surname, for example (why not just "Crenshaw" or "Crandall," for crying out loud? "Jack Crusher," silly!)

Hmm yeah I've always found it to be very interesting that Ardra 'changed into' Troi. I wonder why. *hint, hint*
I kinda like scenes like the one at the end of "Loud As A Whisper" when Jean-Luc thanks Troi for basically saving the day because she convinced Riva to negotiate despite having lost his chorus folks... I just think that scene is very, very cute somehow. I can't help myself. It's just a little thought I keep having... ^^'

LMAO!!! Everyone who doesn't like Crusher is my immediate friend.

Great! It is hard sometimes to find people who don't like Dr. Crusher on this BBS. I've found that people either love or hate her. I must put myself more in the second camp, although "hate" is too strong a word. "Bored" is better, as I never found her character compelling. At least Dr. Pulaski was a ball-breaker -- although I really don't like her character, as she was too much of a McCoy clone.

Off-topic, but my favorite CMO after McCoy was DSN's Bashir, followed by VOY's Doctor, and ENT's Phlox. I also liked Dr. Boyce from The Cage and liked TOS guest Dr. M'Benga. Beverly and Mark Piper are my least favorite ST physicians!

Neither. But I did find the ultra masculine/feminine aspect of the Worf relationship slightly more intriguing. I also thought that an opportunity was missed not to have explored a Klingon/Klingon relationship. A successful relationship, that is.

Agree with your last point. I think the only successful Klingon pairing we saw was Martok and his wife in DSN. BTW, could a mod please fix the misspelling in the thread title? It's making my copy editor brain crazy! -- RR

Been watching DS9 again, and I really do think Worf and Jadzia were better suited. I think she was a perfect mate for him. Much better than Deanna ever could have been. But im still not fussed about Deanna and Riker. It was always simmering away in the background so it wasnt really a big suprise. Would have liked to see an expected union turn into a marriage.

I like the Riker/Troi relationship. I like its on-again/off-again nature, the way that they are sometimes friends and sometimes lovers. I like the way that they meandered their way through seven seasons and got married in the film. It would have been nice to have seen more of what made their relationship tick but we didn't really see much of that. TNG wasn't really about that.

I enjoyed the Worf/Troi relationship. It didn't really come out of left field for me. I think I saw hints of it coming before it became full blown. Aftetr having said that I'm more disposed to the Worf/Troi relationship because it ended and Riker and Troi got together. Had there been no more TNG after the close of the 7th season and it had ended with Worf and Troi with no possibility of Riker and Troi then I would probably have been a lot less lentient towards it.

I found the Riker/Troi pairing...just boring. And almost stereotypical, really. TV Land is full of these relationships where the two people are sort of in love, but not enough to be inconvenient, plot-wise. It's just so artificial -- it's so clear that what the writers want is the freedom to play off the "they love each other and are meant to be together" angle, but not so much that the two characters are constrained from having affairs with or even falling deeply in love with whichever multiple guest stars happen to fit the plot.

I won't say such relationships are unknown out here in the real world, but they quite rare -- in the real world, former lovers usually learn to avoid each other or they manage to become friends or colleagues or something, something in the present, that is. Sooner or later, the drama is over, out here in Realityville. But in TV Land, these yes-I-love-you-but-only-when-it's-convenient-for-the-plot relationships are a dime a dozen. You can find one on almost every show that involves mixed groups of people, at least some of whom are single. It's so predicable and so artificial that to me, it's boring.

The Troi/Worf pairing was perhaps a bit unlikely, but it was far more interesting, in my opinion. Unlikely pairings do occur in real life, that's for sure.
