The Gazelle speech was a little bit of a cringe moment for me.
<---- I kid.
I too think it was a missed writing opportunity. That was a profound moment for Archer. He should have said something more fitting of his position. But it wasn't all that bad. When I think of all the stupid speeches that Kirk made![]()
The problem with the gazelle speech is that it was 1) stupid, 2) was for the most part the same exact argument the Vulcans were using against humanity pushing out further into space and screwing things up, 3) was to the wrong people, and just to compound it, the speech T'Pol gave was much better and more appropriate. It would've been a lot better had T'Pol actually convinced Archer to let her speak on their behalf.
I have every episode of ENT on tape, save for "North Star"...Patiently waiting for it to show on SciFi. I don't watch old tapes as much as I used to, but I intend on having them when I'm old and grey, so I don't hafta deal with WWIII, y'know?
I have ALL of trek on tape and about half of it on DVD. No shame in liking your tapes-I still go back and forth between watching my discs and my tapes.
Don't you think watching the same thing ten times over is just a bit odd?
When I was in my early twenties on a trip to East Africa I saw a gazelle giving birth. It was truly amazing. Within minutes the baby was standing up, standing up on its own. A few more minutes and it was walking and before I knew it, it was running alongside its mother, moving away with the herd. Humans aren't like that, Ambassador. We may come from the same planet as those gazelles but we're pretty much helpless when we're born. It takes us months before we're able to crawl. Almost a full year before we can walk. Our deep space mission isn't much different. We're going to stumble, make mistakes, I'm sure more than a few, before we find our footing. But we're going to learn from those mistakes. That's what being human is all about. I'm sorry you can't see that.

to the vulcans the humans should have stayed on earth.
were they could learn and prepare before going out into space and making what could be very dangerous mistakes.
you have to craft your arguement for your audience and the speech is a failure on that level.
Yes, regrettably, the writers pretty much abandoned Trip's friendships with Archer and Malcolm in favor of pairing him off constantly with T'Pol. I didn't dislike that relationship, but I also couldn't understand why Trip had to drop his buddies just because of a little Vulcan neuronookie. Especially since it didn't lead to something resembling an adult relationship until Demons/Terra Prime.Since new to watching enterprise eps its like going in no particular order; ok watch the monday night shows which are in order and then on dvd I choose after reading synopsis of eps what eps I want to watch and am presently surprized at the arcs that they put together on the show. But like I said fun way to do it; actually wish could find more interaction between Malcolm and Trip.

I didn't feel that was true until the very end of season 4 -- from the last of the Andorian arc on.
I have to agree with Sue, watching Malcolm and Trip was fun, almost as fun as watching Archer and T'Pol or Archer and T'Pol interacting with Phlox.
I thought Trip and Archer were good friends ... until season 3, where they interacted a lot less. Scott Bakula's explanation (when asked in an online chat) is their friendship was never quite the same after Cogenitor.Malcolm and Trip could tease each other like they did in United; even after when Trip gave Malcolm order not to do what he was suppost to do at the end they shared a laugh. I mean Archer would try that with Trip and its like just wasn't funny!
I didn't see any friendship other than TATV.I think the only time Trip and Archer looked close again was in the final eps and thats when Trip saved Archers life; but would have liked to have seen in that eps the other cast members took news of Trips death instead of just Tpol and Archer.

On the reaction to Trip's death, I'm really glad they only showed T'Pol and Archer's reaction. The purpose wasn't to dwell on the past, but to look forward ... which is why the very next scene is Archer getting ready for the speech while T'Pol hovers around him and then they hug. (The hugging was a great scene.)
Wow really Scott said that; I mean look at the length that Archer went to make sure Trip lived in the Sim eps; and then also reaction to Sim in Trips room. I mean Trip made a mistake but I can't believe that cause of that one thing one change their friendship. I mean you could see it when Trip would approach Archer on some of his descisions when he put his feelings first before what would happen to the crew. And to me think Trip was right to question it.
