Absolutely not....it's wide open for whatever anyone chooses to do.

I don't have access to the story, but wouldn't Kennedy not be a very good choice for action hero Kirk because of all his back problems? Then again, Jonathan Frakes had similar issues (although not as bad) in a similar role 20 years later.
