Re-Cast Trek with anyone you choose

This is where I mention David Gerrold's alternate-history story, "The Kennedy Enterprise," in which JFK is cast as Kirk on the original series.

(The idea being that JFK went into show-biz instead of politics after his dad moved to Hollywood to be with his long-time mistress Gloria Swanson . . .. )

I actually wrote the cover copy for the ALTERNATE KENNEDYS anthology. I'm still unduly proud of my tag-line for that book.

"Ask not who the Kennedys were. Ask who they might have been . . . " :)

There seem to be a inclination to keep the sexes and races of the characters the same.

Does the OP consider that a requirement?

I don't have access to the story, but wouldn't Kennedy not be a very good choice for action hero Kirk because of all his back problems? Then again, Jonathan Frakes had similar issues (although not as bad) in a similar role 20 years later.

I really feel it's time for Abrams Trek to get a reboot, whomever gets cast for it:

Kirk: Colton Haynes
Spock: Ezra Miller
Bones: Adam Brody
Sulu: Will Jay
Chekov: Lucas Till
Uhura: Maisie Richardson-Sellers
Nurse Chapel: Saoirse Ronan
Rand: Elle Fanning

This could be interesting.

Kirk: Emilia Clarke
Spock: Lena Headey
McCoy: Peter Dinklage
Scotty: Sophie Turner
Uhura: Kit Harington
Sulu: Maisie Williams
Nurse Chapel: Nikolaj Coster-Waldau
Yeoman Rand: Iain Glen

In the Mirror Universe, Chang is a good guy.

I imagine him played by John Wayne, in Rooster Cogburn 'True Grit' character, facing off against Evil Kirk:

"Fill your torpedo tubes, you son of a bitch!"

U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701, Constitution-Class. Exterior design consistent with her appearance on ST: Discovery. Interior colors and general design consistent with the interior of U.S.S. Excelsior from Star Trek III (modified to be consistent in shape with the exterior of the ship, of course. ;) )

Crew:
Captain Jacqueline T. Kirk: Lucille Ball at age 40, played seriously
First Officer and Science Officer Saavik: Jolene Blalock at age 30 - costume styles as TOS, with hair generally as in "In A Mirror, Darkly".
Ship's Surgeon Leonard McCoy: DeForest Kelley, as per TOS.
Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott: Simon Pegg, as per Star Trek (2009)
Lt. Cmdr Jabilo M'Benga, Chief Communications Officer: Michael Dorn, at the age he was when he started on DS9. (44?)
Lt. Cmdr Sulu, Ship's Helmsman: John Cho, as per Star Trek (2009), including being a gay character from the start, presented in a respectful way.
Nurse Christian Chapel: Connor Trineer at age 32.
Yeoman Janice Rand: Olivia Holt ("Dagger" from Marvel's "Cloak and Dagger") from right now.
Ensign Pavel Chekov, Transporter Officer: Anton Yelchin at age 22.
Lt. Arex, Ship's Weapons: Danny Pudi at age 30.
Lt. M'Ress: Zoe Saldana at age 32 (right after her CGI and voice acting experience from "Avatar")
Security Chief Uhuru El Fidil: Nazanin Boniadi from right now.

Auxilliary Characters:
Saavik's mother and Federation Ambassador at Large, T'Pau: Carol Decker (actress, lead singer of the band T'Pau) at age 42. (Yes, I know that seems young, but Vulcans are long-lived, so I figure they stay younger-seeming longer.)
Saavik's father, Richard Grayson: Kelsey Grammer at age 55.
Vulcan High Priest Sarek (in "Amok Time"): Mark Lennard at the age he was in Star Trek IV.
Stonn (in "Amok Time"): Ty Burrell at age 39
T'Pring (in "Amok Time"): Summer Glau at age 30
Romulan Commander Keras (in "The Enterprise Incident"): James Frain at age 40
Romulan Commander Chavarnek (in "Balance of Terror"): Marina Sirtis at age 40
Klingon Commander Kor: John Colicos, as TOS
Klingon Commander Kang: Tony Todd, at age 36
Klingon Lieutenant Mara, Kang's wife: Demi Moore at age 36 (right after her role in "G.I. Jane")
Klingon Commander Koloth: James Callis, at age 37
Klingon Commander Kruge: Chrisopher Lloyd, at age 40 (this version of TOS is running at least 7 seasons, so why not have some back story for Star Trek III, later? ;) )
Admiral Heihachiro Nogura: George Takei at age 54

I'm going to stop here. I could keep going on this for a while. :D
