Ratings...

Does anyone know what the highest ratings of each show in it's prime were?

Just curious. Thanks. :)

A while ago I saved this graphic, T'Baio. It doesn't have TOS on it but it does contain the ratings for the other four series by episode. Maybe somebody else has the old Nielsen ratings for TOS.

I can't remember why there are the zero figures on the graphs. There was a good explanation. Maybe it was sporting events that required many preemptions. That could cause the figures to be skewed and discounted.

The first person that guesses why TNG spiked without looking it up in an episode guide wins a tribble.

TNG debuted to a rating of 15.7 with "Encounter at Farpoint" and drew a rating of 17.4 (its highest ever) with "All Good Things...". The fifth season spike is because of Leonard Nimoy's guest appearance in "Unification".

DS9 debuted to a rating of 18.8 with "Emissary" (its highest ever, and a record that still stands as the highest rating ever for a syndicated series). "What You Leave Behind" drew a rating of 5.4.

VOY debuted to a rating of 13.0 with "Caretaker" (its highest ever) and ended with a rating of 5.5 for "Endgame".

ENT debuted to a rating of 7.0 with "Broken Bow" (its highest ever) and ended with a rating of 2.2 for "These are the Voyages".

It should be noted that a network ratings point represents more viewers than a syndicated ratings point.

So the ratings dropped with each successive show. DS9 did much better than Voyager overall, and has the highest rated Trek episode ever.

Still wondering why Paramount pretty much seemed to ignore it after it went off the air...not even including Sisko's visage amongst captains in many ads and such.

Are these numbers millions of people viewed, or percentage points or something? What does a Nielson number mean?

No DS9 didn't do that much better overall than Voyager.

According to those stats, on average it had well over a million more households watching, which is half of Enterprise's final couple seasons. I'd say that's better.

I used to have all of the Nielsen ratings for TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

From memory, there wasn't a massive difference between DS9 and VOY, although DS9's were slightly higher, consistently.

Here are DS9's ratings;

You can get most of the Voyager ratings here;

You can get the Season 5 & 6 ratings from the air schedules on that site.

Can't find anything offhand about season 7, but from memory, they were down again on the season 6 numbers.

So season 7 of TNG had the same number of households viewing it as the combined last seasons of the three that followed it! It hasn't aged well, but still, this stat gives me a warm fuzzy feeling about what used to be my favorite Trek.
