^ It's really too bad too, cause the conservation message is a good and important one. The idea that our survival in the future might depend on another species is good too. It just needed to be handled better, and perhaps more subtly.

I hate to sound like a Johnny One-Note, but in the context of the time (1986) delivered a good message.
The humor of the famous crew is at its best... and I agree that after the heaviness of the prior two... Trek needed that. It is still the ST movie which had the greatest appeal to the general public. :vulcan:

This was the movie that introduced me to Trek. I still love it, although with time I think it's slipped a little in my estimation (unlike TSFS, which has risen over time in my eyes). Still, there's great humor, a great story, and I give Nimoy a lot of credit for delivering a very strong Star Trek film without no phaser fire. Four stars.

Five stars! I like this one almost as much as TWOK precisely because it's different in tone from the others -- the light comedy with a serious "save the whales" message. When has being environmentally correct ever been this much fun? Sure, some of it is just plain silly, but that's the fun of this movie. Didn't care too much for the movie's semi-nautical theme song, though. -- RR
