Rate TMP the Original Cinema Version vs Directors Edition

Well, what is your thoughts and it would also be better if you have seen both version before you cast your vote..
I have made 2 polls. First is, who do you think is the better version and second poll is how many movie stars(Star Trek scale) to you give those 2 version.

Ditto. The theatrical wasn't horrible, but it was lacking. The DE is a vast improvement, but it's not perfect because of flaws inherent in its story. The story needed more meat beyond oggling at and dealing with V'Ger. Perhaps if we'd seen more friction between the new style Starfleet Decker and the proven style Kirk.

DE/3/3. The difference isn't so substantial that it goes up an entire star compared to other movies. What really worked in TMP was there from the beginning. The DE just ups the watchability factor somewhat.

I prefer the original but not so much that I don't give each film four (relative to Trek films--no Trek film has earned a fifth) stars.

If the SLV was listed that would get the highest from me and is the best version (expcept for two shots and needs to be widescreen.)

While I like the Director's Edition a little more, it's not enough to move it's status on the scale.

Theatrical, just because the sound mix is decent. SLV would have been my preference over both of these.

For me, the SLV is the best version. If only it was widescreen ...

The SLV is an abomination. I saw something close to it in a theatrical screening not long ago, and the audience was totally unresponsive during almost all of the added-back material, which illustrated why it was cut in the first place.

Lucky you! I'd like to know more about that screening ... why did it happen and what were the differences to the SLV?

Unresponsive? What did you expect? How are they supposed to respond? Standing up on their seats and cheering during the additional scenes?

Personally, I like the additional scenes. I'd love a DVD release of the SLV in widescreen, which would be far superior to the DE.

Frankly, each have their flaws and ultimately they cancel each other out.

DE has some good stuff, but for pure nostagic value (upon which all of my memories are based), the original wins out.
Ok, maybe 3.75/3.5.

Theatrical version by a nose.

I saw a different version too, not sure it was the same as what you saw. They screened it as part of the "sit long and prosper" marathon before STVI opened. It had all the SLV scenes minus the stupid "kirk in the wrong spacesuit" scenes, plus some extra scenes. So it basically was an improved version of SLV and in widescreen.

The editing and completed sound mix on the Director's Edition make it far, far superior to the theatrical version. The new effects are nice, but they're not the thing that's the dealbreaker for me.
