I gave it a 3 because of Uhura's dance (would have been a 4 without it). I think what bothers me most about it is that they are trying to pass her off as a 25 year old, when in reality she was more than twice that.
People don't stop being sexual beings - or desirable - when they hit 30. Or 40. Or, yes, 50. She looked perfectly fine doing that dance.

Thank you! Never understood why people are how old NN was when she did the fan dance. I gave it a 4. Its actually one of my favorite Trek films.

Sharr

A 3, nowhere near as bad as some people say and who cares if the SFX are poo, there are many films with infinitely superior SFX i'd rather be the punchbag of a Jem'Hadar batallion than watch again unlike TFF.

Some of the character development was really good such as the McCoy and Spock past scenes and of course some great Kirk quotes

"I need my pain!"

3 stars. Has some great moments between the big three that make it worth it. The plot about God at the end is a really cool, epic idea. It's much better than Nemesis, it's better than Insurrection and I would put it on par with Generations, or slightly above.

It is NOT the worst Star Trek movie and anyone who says that honestly has not watched them all objectively, recently.

^^ For those that take Star Trek too seriously it's a horrible movie.

However, for those that enjoy Trek but realize it's a fun fictional story, we are willing to forget some of the stupidness, because some of the good parts are really good.

Generations is wayyyyyyy worse than TFF. Generations had ZERO good moments in it, from the beginning of the movie to the bitter end with Kirk dying and the Enterprise D getting destroyed. And then passing that off as a happy ending lol.

I was about to rate it 3 stars but then i remembered Uhura moon dance so i give it ONE STAR. What were they thinking:confused:. Nichelle Nichols was 57 years old in 1989.

Well, I gave it a star because of the fan dance! Hey, different strokes! -- RR

i agree NN was still hot.

Seems quite the fashion to find TFF terrible. I thought it had a great premise (like the TAS magicks of megas tu) for a story, the script was slightly disjointed. The first part before Spock's brother entered the Enterprise was too slow and poorly written. The last third, the search for God or so they believed, and the character moments were great.

I noted that in a recent poll on here, TAS magicks of megas tu was heavily voted against also. Im british, had an american partner and was surprised by how religious.. christian based, the usa was. Most of the posters here are from the USA.

I wonder if the reaction to TAS magicks of megas tu and TFF is inpart due to the divine being seen in parts of the stories as merely superior aliens

a 3.70 from me.

Let's finish it.

Rate TFF on a scale of 1 to 5 stars with the best trek movie as a 5--not against movies in general.

This could have been a good story, but it is horribly managed. For me its only good moments are when Sybok tricks McCoy and Spock to face their respective painful memories and Kirk refusing to succumb. And Kirk asking, "What does God need with a starship?"

The rest is total bunk. Even most of the visuals are lacklustre.

I agree that was amazing line Kirk asking, "What does God need with a starship?". One of the best oneliners in ST and movies in general i feel.

Indeed what does God want with a Starship. Good point lol

Yes, I know that's exactly the phrase he was referring to... It's a perjorative phrase, anyway you slice it, and it never is used in a complimentary fashion. I challenge anyone to find a positive context for this remark!

Wow. You can't even lie well. An appropriate response would have been to apologize for your accusation and insults. But you don't even have the testicular fortitude and moral integrity to stand up and do that. Grow up.
Wow... kinda like "the pot calling the kettle black", to use another old phrase.
Soooooo... back to the thread: Ancient, before reading what you just wrote I would have disagreed with you, but you make some good points. I always look away when Uhura does the fan dance because of her pudginess, but next time I won't look away... thanks you I'll try to enjoy it.
Personally, I thought they would have dealt with many of their personal demons long before Spock's brother came along. It came off as just a cheap plot device to have such strong characters give themselves over to the bad guy like that. I always thought only the weak-minded and Republicans fell easily to cults. :guffaw:
Like many have said, "Two stars because Nemesis is reserved for the One-Star category." :vulcan:

Now who the fuck are you, and what's your issue??? Or you just decided to crawl out of the woodwork to try to revive an old argument that had absolutely nothing to do with you and be an asshole for no good reason?
And yes, this time I'm calling someone an asshole.
Ranger can speak and has spoken quite well for himself; if a little yabo like you wants to step up and make some trouble I'll fucking well oblige you. You caught me in the right mood for it tonight, you presumptuous little twat.
Oh, and who the fuck are you?

I always look away when Uhura does the fan dance because of her pudginess...
I always thought only the weak-minded and Republicans fell easily to cults.
Asshole. Q.E.D.

Did you even have a dog in that fight? There was no need to drag it back up again. Warning for thread-shitting (a.k.a. "Other"). Comments to my PM box.

Save the political commentary for TNZ.

Then you know what's coming next, beaker.

Now can we all get back on track here? I thought this thing between beaker and Red Ranger was settled. And even if it isn't, the next person who drags it up again will get a warning too.

Just for the record, the kettle is black, no? This ain't about the pot!

Oh right, the thread...

TFF...so...

I liked the ship wheel. At first I thought they could actually steer with that thing. Yes, I was that big of a doofus, what?

I'll play by the rules of this thread. Best ST movie is TWOK for me, which would get the 5 stars. TFF, though, is the worst, and, in that regard, it gets just 2. I hate to say it, because I'm an original ST fan (as well as one of the original TNG fans as well and a big fan of DS9), but I can't defend what's very obviously a bad movie due to a very weak script, bad effects, and blatantly re-used TNG sets. All those things really bothered me about it.

That said, there are some very good character scenes with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in this film that I still enjoy watching. I actually like it more than INS, which is the one ST film I really dislike.

I'll go with 3 stars. It's definitely one of the weakest movies but I enjoy it far, far more than Insurrection (2 stars for me) and Nemesis (1 star), for example.

The only TNG movie better than TFF was First Contact.

It's ironic how they fought to keep time travel out of Generations (where it would have helped the story trememdously) only to embrace it in FC (where it became a cheap cop out to frolic around hicksville and do Troi drunk jokes)
