News Rapp: Spacey Made Sexual Advance Toward Me

Appalling. Good for Anthony Rapp to come forward and expose this. And Kevin Spacey's "apology" is anything but. Drunkness is no excuse for sexual assault and it's made even worse when it's against a minor.

Spacey apologised for the crime and uses the alcohol as explanation for his behaviour - not as excuse. It doesn’t unmake the damage but it shows he is contrite.
Like that prisoner of the Nygeans in the VOY episode, kind of.

It’s up to Rapp now to press charges or let it go.

I don’t remember it happening is not an apology in my book, nor is drunkenness an explanation for child sexual abuse. As for the rest, this says it all:
Kevin Spacey conflating gay sexuality with apology for unwanted advance on 14-year-old

He didn't just use the Alcohol card,

in the same breath as his "apology" he declares he doesn't remember it and says "if" he acted that way he is sorry, he then goes on to try to hide behind being a homosexual, declaring that this event has encouraged him to acknowledge it.

He is acting rather despicably.

Rapp actually talked about this back in 2001 but had who it was withheld

That makes me think of [a certain leading man] in [a certain award-winning film].

It’s hard for me to evaluate his acting because I’m so angry at him. I met him when I was 14 because we were both in plays and he invited me to a party at his house. I was bored, so I was in his bedroom watching TV and didn’t know everybody had left, and he came to the bedroom and he picked me up and lay down on top of me.

What kind of a party has 14 years olds? That alone is creepy
It's not that uncommon. I was a child stage actor (mainly Shakespeare productions) and we'd have wrap parties at actors and directors' homes where the child actors would be partying alongside the adults, even drinking alcohol openly. The producer would usually drop us home or something afterwards.

Because productions would be on a Saturday and wouldn't wrap until late anyway, parents wouldn't really care if you were an extra hour late (because what difference does returning home at 12am or 1am make).

He could just have shit parents. Let's not victim blame a 14 year old...
Or he could have been a kid who was able to get himself into interesting places where there would have been no one to defend him, where he shouldn't have been, but was anyway. Thinking of stuff I pulled around that age, and Rapp and I are about the same age, I count myself lucky.

I'm glad he was able to get away from Spacey. Spacey could have accepted the blame and done whatever it is hollywood stars do when they start their mea culpas, or denied it. By rights he should have gone to jail but there's rarely justice for these pukes. He chose to hide behind coming out and tried to bury whatever happened under doubt and an alcoholic cloud. Despicable.

I couldn't imagine what I would have done or how it would have impacted me if I had I been in his shoes. I'm glad that he was finally able to come forward and expose that piece of sh@t.

The only question I have is "how many other children did Spacey do this too?"

Being a theater/art kid it is totally not uncommon to be an early teen in the company of older folks partying after wrapping a show. I was never allowed booze at these gatherings but it was kind of the cool and special part of that community. You were all the weird ones who found a home with one another. Its not bad parenting or Rapp being somewhere he shouldnt have. It was a situation where an older man took advantage of a minor and ruined what should have been a fun and formative postive experience for him. His first broadway wrap party. The only thing that shouldn't have been done here is that Spacey shouldnt have drunkenly attempted to force himself on a 14 yeard old boy.

What Spacey did here was indeed despicable; but the question above deserves to be asked too: Why wasn't the 14 year old Anthony Rapp being chaperoned and what exactly were his parents told RE: The party he was invited to, and did they know he was there and what would be going on?

Because some "show business" parents are hardly parents at all, and leave the fate of their children up to agents and associated handlers. Moreover, some parents allow their children to have adult-level freedom, because they would not "dare" hold their star-in-the-making back in any way, or stand in the way of the kid making the right connections in that business.

Feeding kids to a largely despicable business.

My best friend is gay. Only recently did he tell me the sort of stuff he got up to in high school, when we were 16-17. You tell your parents you're going one place for the weekend (a concert, then sleeping over Bobby's house, etc.), one of your friends has another "friend" who is having a party, you catch a ride, and suddenly you're at a party several states away with people you don't even know. And I had no idea he did any of this....we pretty much spent every weekend playing computer games and watching Star Trek. But the things he tells me now....sheesh.

"I was at a party with super-sketchy people...my friend just left and I was alone with guys dropping acid..." It's not just Hollywood. Kids do stupid shit.
