Rank the seasons 1-7

I plan on buying all seasons of TNG on dvd. I already have a few that I bought (I refused to pay the huge $ Paramount was asking when they first came out) used.

This got me wondering. How would you rank seasons 1 thru 7?

Here is my list (1 being the best. 7 the worst)

1/Season 4 (the best of the series)
2/Season 5 (great to see Leonard Nimoy as Spock)
3/Season 6 (Jimmy Dohan as Scotty)
4/Season 3 (the show found itself)
5/Season 2 (some very solid episodes/The show showed growth)
6/Season 7 (feels flat to me)
7/Season 1 (not as bad as some people say)

Season 6 (Expanded the universe and set up DS9)
Season 5 (Yes it was the year of the children but it was enjoyable)
Season 2 (Underrated season IMO)
Season 7 (I like it but the show was started to lose steam)
Season 1 (Not a bad season but the weakest)

Captain Jack - you rock. I think you're the only person I've come across who, like me, ranks the seventh season on the top of his or her list. My overall rankings:

^ About the same for me, too. I'd put Season 2 before Season 7, though.

I think the halcyon days of Seasons 3-6 all have about the same level of quality. It's hard to choose between them because all four of them are excellent.

for me, the show was never the same after the end of the 4th year. i don't know how much it realistically had to do with gene's death, but around that time, the show began to get very monochromatic, nauseatingly PC, and just boring.

it's amazing to me that anyone can say season 5 is anywhere near the levels of excellence set by the preceding two seasons. "darmok" (and i'd be willing to throw in "redemption II" and maybe "silicon avatar") aside, the fifth year just had so much cutesy-child-laced garbage...a lot of it is even more unwatchable for me now than it was then. a crummy episode in season three was actually pretty good - "the hunted," for example - but the worst of season is - "cost of living," for example - is just embarrassing trash.

for a while, i was thinking that TNG, as a series, hadn't aged all that well - then i realized that the first 4 years are - for me, anyway - a lot better than the last three.

Season 3 would be top for me. So many great episodes, culminating in the greatest cliffhanger that Trek's ever done.

For me, in spite of the absence of GHSS factors in Season 2, and in spite of the STRIKE that cut short that season, I'd actually rate it just below Seasons 3 and 4 (mainly because of "Q Who?" and that battle rehearsal ep, but also because of Data as Sherlock Holmes).

After Season 2, it's tough, but I'll try:

4) Season 1: In spite of a few weak eps, there was "The Big Goodbye," "Conspiracy," "The Neutral Zone," and that other ep with Admiral Quinn. I don't know why these eps are more memorable to me than, say, "Relics," but maybe because I watched repeats of the first two seasons before additional seasons became available for my viewing when I turned 9.

5) Season 6: This, for me, was most notable for "The Chase" and that ep where Troi was a Romulan.
