Rank the Musical Scores

1) The Motion Picture
2) TWOK
3) Trek 5
4) Trek 4 (I really like the theme they used)
5) Trek 3
6) Trek 6--Least favorite...it just didnt seem to fit a Trek film to me.

I just listened to #4. It had been years since i had. I love the theme, but too much of the rest of it sounds like a Kenny G cd. I hadn't remembered that.

- Wrath Of Khan (there's nothing I don't love about this film. It's my favourite in every way. And Khan's theme is awesome.)
- The Motion Picture
- Star Trek XI
- The Voyage Home
- The Search For Spock
- Generations
- The Undiscovered Country
- First Contact
- Insurrection
- Nemesis

Here is how I would rate the music scores of the movies with #1 being the best, at least to me!

1.Star Trek XI: I love the music of the movie, it just fits it so well. I can listen to music and just about picture what is happening. I can never listen enough of the soundtack. The soundtrack and the book is all I got, at leat till the movie comes out in November!

2.Star Trek Genarations and Star Trek IV The Voyage Home: Even though the music is different and differnt eras, I think they are both great musical scores, no mater what year they came out in, so I rate them about the same.

3.Star Trek III The Search For Spock & Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan: I rate these about the same because the music in each one is about the same except for a few differances. But the music ties both movies toghter just as one whole movie even though its two. So I like these the same as well.

4.Star Trek V The Final Frontier: I think the music score in this pretty good espically at the begaing of the movie where Kirk is climbing the moutain.

5.Star Trek Nemeis: This is pretty good score though there is that part where Data dies, which is sad. But over all the music does capture the movie pretty well in different scenes.

6.Star Trek First Contact: The music in this movie is good in every part of the movie.

7.Star Trek Inserection: Is pretty good muisc in the movie, the music is a little more light hearted compare to the other movie soundtracks, but its still good.

8.Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country: The muisc is pretty good through out the film, but I would'nt say its the best.

9.Star Trek The Motion Picture: The music in the movie is okay, but not as good as the other film soundtracks.

I relistened to the TREK XI/Giacchino soundtrack yesterday. It's just as kick-ass and powerful now as it was five months ago the very first time I heard samples of it on YouTube.

Don't knock James Horner, his scores for TWOK and TSFS were magnificent, his best to date (including 'A Beautiful Mind'). He brought out the old naval idea perfectly, almost reinventing these two adventures as Horatio Hornblower stories, stopping on the right side of melodrama. It was a shame that he was unavailable for TVH, to complete the trilogy. Leonard Rosenman wrote a terrific score for 'Countdown', but his Trek score wasn't inspiring - he didn't get it, unfortunately.

But Jerry Goldsmiths score for THP wins hands down.

1. The Motion Picture - The score I can listen to over and over. Standouts include "Ilia's Theme" and "The Enterprise." I often have this soundtrack playing when I read.

2. The Undiscovered Country - I just love this score. It can be deep and brooding, and full of action. It feels very complete. Favorite tracks are "Overture" and "Escape from Rura Penthe."

3. The Wrath of Kahn - Horner's music manages to capture the idea of naval action, loss, and redemption. Perhaps not as deep as The Motion Picture, but full of great moments. Standout tracks include "Main Title" and "Genesis Countdown."

Those are my three favorites. The rankings of the rest would be:
4. The Final Frontier
5. The Search for Spock
6. Star Trek
7. The Voyage Home
8. First Contact
9. Generations
10. Nemesis
11. Insurrection

5. The Final Frontier

1. The Motion Picture - this is easy. The entire score is excellent, and quite distinctive from start to finish. It's also the best rendition of the ST theme as well. Standout tracks - all of them! But especially The Enterprise and The Meld.

2. The Final Frontier - as many have already said, it's a shame this wonderful score was wasted on such a terrible movie. You know it's a good soundtrack when you enjoy it without the connection of the movie, and TFF's score is no exception. It's also one of the few soundtracks where I actually enjoy the action-sequence music. This is a rarity for me. Standout tracks - The Mountain and A Busy Man.

3. First Contact - now, for the most part I am not a fan of the dark action sequences, but fortunately the rolling theme of FC is just so amazingly good, that I can just listen to it over and over. I would argue this is the BEST theme Goldsmith came up with in his career. Standout Tracks - First Contact

4. Star Trek 2009 - a real surprise! Of course, time will tell where I place this score, but for now, I really enjoy it. Initially I quite disliked it, but upon a second viewing of the film, I really got hooked on the theme. It's so impressive, and whilst lacking in a bit of diversity, it's still very good and is again, one of the few soundtracks where I can enjoy the action-music sequences on their own, not just in the film. Giacchino's rendition of the original ST theme is a bit hard to swallow though - reeks of Galaxy Quest/90's Lost in Space theme. Standout Tracks: Labor of Love, Enterprising Young Men and Star Trek.

5. The Search for Spock - The better of Horner's two efforts. It's a tad forgettable here and there, but for the most part it's beautifully constructed, and his Klingon theme is quite unique. Standout tracks - Stealing the Enterprise and Returning to Vulcan

6. The Wrath of Khan - Quite repetitive, but a good solid theme for Star Trek in the 80's. Standout tracks: Battle in the Mutara Nebula and Genesis Countdown.

Now from here, the rest of the soundtracks are mostly forgettable, so I can't really rank them. Not to say I dislike (mostly) them but more that I can't really enjoy them outside the movie.

Undiscovered Country is really good, but I can only enjoy it whilst watching the movie. Sign Off is the only standout track.

The Voyage Home suits the movie, but that's about it. I am not really a fan of this style of music, and there's nothing that really stands out for me.

Generations feels Next Gen, and most of the music in that was forgettable background music.

Insurrection suits the film, but is largely forgettable. Although I really love the 'New Sight' track.

Nemesis was entirely forgettable and probably the only soundtrack I dislike.

The Search for Spock
The Wrath of Kahn
The Undiscovered Country

That's hows I see it. This is my favorite right here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8w068MbYso
