This list is based on opinion. Having said that? I think Nemesis is FAR worse than Star Trek V. So no, I don't think it is copping out at all. If you don't believe me ask B and B. More than the failure of Enterprise, Nemesis is what killed TREK.
Star Trek V is a flawed movie. But Nemesis is just awful, and box office? TREK V made 2 million more than Nemesis and was released in 1989. So not only is it a better movie than Nemesis, based the value of a dollar in 1989, it made a heck of a lot more money...

Well said. I do love the Kirk/Spock/McCoy stuff, but two or three scenes don't make a movie. It is all up to the individual, but the fact that the rest of V is just so horrible, from the look of it ie the very lackluster effects, the casting of Larry Luckinbill, the characterization of Sybok, I think it makes a good companion piece to Nemesis. Sybok comes out of nowhere, a half brother of Spock, Shinzon comes out of nowhere, a clone of Picard... both WTF moments.
I actually have no problem with introducing either Sybok (who I thought was perfectly casted) and Shinzon. Introducing a son for Kirk, a daughter for Sulu, and a Borg queen at Wolf 359 were also interesting story turns.
As for Luckinbill? I thought he was great. He played the character as non-vulcan as you could, and that was who the character was. He was a far better non-Vulcan Vulcan than most of the TNG-era full Blooded Romulans and Vulcans, IMO
