Rank the movies

This list is based on opinion. Having said that? I think Nemesis is FAR worse than Star Trek V. So no, I don't think it is copping out at all. If you don't believe me ask B and B. More than the failure of Enterprise, Nemesis is what killed TREK.

Star Trek V is a flawed movie. But Nemesis is just awful, and box office? TREK V made 2 million more than Nemesis and was released in 1989. So not only is it a better movie than Nemesis, based the value of a dollar in 1989, it made a heck of a lot more money...

Rob

Well said. I do love the Kirk/Spock/McCoy stuff, but two or three scenes don't make a movie. It is all up to the individual, but the fact that the rest of V is just so horrible, from the look of it ie the very lackluster effects, the casting of Larry Luckinbill, the characterization of Sybok, I think it makes a good companion piece to Nemesis. Sybok comes out of nowhere, a half brother of Spock, Shinzon comes out of nowhere, a clone of Picard... both WTF moments.

I actually have no problem with introducing either Sybok (who I thought was perfectly casted) and Shinzon. Introducing a son for Kirk, a daughter for Sulu, and a Borg queen at Wolf 359 were also interesting story turns.

As for Luckinbill? I thought he was great. He played the character as non-vulcan as you could, and that was who the character was. He was a far better non-Vulcan Vulcan than most of the TNG-era full Blooded Romulans and Vulcans, IMO

Rob

^ I agree in part, but comparing Sybok or Shinzon to Demora, David isn't fair, Gen. and II/III didn't really rely on them the way the other films did on Sybok and Shinzon.

I suppose Lukinbill is 'ok', but nobody went to the new Trek film thinking WOW, they got LARRY LUCKINBILL in Trek, oh boy!! Lol. By the time V was made they should have known better, and certainly with Nemesis there is no excuse. If I had my way, the Shinzon character would have been rapidly aging to the point that in the second half of Nem. Patrick Stewart would have been playing the character. That might have saved Nemesis to some extent.

As much as I dislike TFF, I thought Lukinbill was pretty good. It would have been interesting if they had been able to get Connery as they wanted.

Well let me start by saying that this is shocking to me! You guys have... such great taste! I can't believe the difference between you and Swedish Star Trek fans. There's a poll at a Swedish Star Trek forum where Khan had TWO votes, and First Contact had 38

Swedish fans in general seems to really dislike TOS, and only respects it because "it's what started it all"

This is really refreshing, I must say.

I've been taking up for TFF for alot of years and it's getting tiresome. Unfortunately, the movie has a reputation that precedes itself. People who have never even seen the movie have an opinion of it. It's the urban legend of Trek films. Is it perfect? No. But few movies are. The truth of the matter is that Trek V has more heart and more intelligence than all of the TNG movies combined.

I have yet to see Nemesis but as for Gen, Fc & Ins, I wholeheartedly agree with you. I value TFF much higher than those movies.
