I think I saved the sniper rifle just to use in that scenario... but then those damn invisible Elites would sneak up on me and insta-kill me while I'm hiding behind a tree setting up my shot!

I am a late convert to the franchise and even then only for the CO-OP ability. I played Halo 1 on the PC many years ago but only did the first 2 levels and got bored. I have never played Halo 2 and it was ODST that got me into the franchise...

I played splitscreen CO-OP with some buddies and really enjoyed it so I brought Halo 3 for the 360 and did the co-op on that too. Halo Reach looks sweet but since I only really want it for co-op and not online versus, I will wait for a price drop in 2011. Cheapest so far is £35 but I will need it to go down to £25 to warrant the purchase.

For those of you picking Halo 1, how do you feel about repeating the same rooms/corridors over and over again?

Back then, I hated it, I thought it was lazy game design. However, as time passed and the game grew on me and it was still fun even going through the same levels only backwards, I was able to overlook it. And now, 9 years later, it still ranks as the best campaign even given that.

1. Reach
2. Halo (PC version for multiplayer/Xbox version for Co-Op)
3. Halo 3: ODST
4. Halo 3
5. Halo 2
6. Halo Wars (Although I don't think it belongs in this ranking because it's a different genre.)

My ranking is based on both singleplayer and multiplayer aspects combined.

I'll elaborate later and post my campaign- and multiplayer-only rankings as well.
My campaign ranking:
1. Reach
2. Halo (Xbox for Co-Op, PC for solo)
3. Halo 3: ODST (atmosphere, narrative, gameplay, Firefly cast)
4. Halo 2 (lots of opportunities for exploration, getting out of levels - also, playing as the Arbiter on Legendary - fun!)
5. Halo 3

Multiplayer ranking:
1. Halo (PC, Custom Edition for user-created maps)
2. Reach (customizability to the extreme, Forge mode ad infinitum, armor abilities, I could go on and on)
3. Halo 3: ODST (honorary third for introducing Firefight ;))
4. Halo 3
5. Halo 2 (way too much spray and pray, terrible SMG starting weapon)

I finally got play Reach. It was pretty good. Except for the story which had very little going for it. I just don't care about these disposable soldiers in Reach and ODST the way I do for Master Chief and Cortana and Johnson. The campaign was great though, very varied set design with lots of cool buildings to fight in/around. And great rail guy / flying levels. Definitely MUCH better than ODST all around.

So purely for game play I'd rank it above Halo 3, but 3 had a much better story.

So.... Halo 2 > Reach > Halo 3 > Halo > ODST > Halo Wars

Yeah! Best story. Best set pieces. Dual wielding. The Arbiter. Boss fights. I played that game SO many times when it came out. It such a great sequel that expanded on everything in the first one, blowing it all up with more detail and intrigue.

Actually what really ticks me off is that Halo 2 is the only game with boss fights. I love those fights! I'd play the Tartarus fight over and over again.

To each his own... But I shudder at the thought of ever playing that one again. Right before Reach came out me and a buddy of mine played through all of the campaigns of all of the previous Halo games and after playing 2, we decided it was the worst thing we'd ever done and will never ever do that one again.
