Rank the first ten films

5. STIX Insurrection - feels like a mediocre TNG episode drawn out to fill 90 minutes.

6. STII Wrath of Khan - I don't understand the appeal of this film, but it's watchable.

7. STIII Search for Spock - A strange film. Some memorable scenes.

8. STV Final Frontier - Another strange film. Some memorable scenes.

Interesting new postings to this thread..

Pleasantly surprised to see STFC still so high on most people's lists. Surprised to see STVI ranked so highly. I really did enjoy the movie when it came out but further viewings have somewhat spoiled the movie for me. Also happy to see some people have defied the zeitgeist to dismiss Nemesis out of hand and rank it in the top half.

It's hard to rate them, because they have different ways of effecting the viewer. But here goes.

TWOK and TUC are probably tied for first. TWOK had some great action bits, and TUC felt like a really good "Who Done It" story.

Next is probably TVH, was funny. I always laugh at spocks "Colorful Metaphors."

After that is probably Trek '09. Followed shortly by FC.

Then its TSFS, TMP, Generations, and Insurection.

Nemesis and TFF are tied for last. Nemesis could have been so much better, and TFF was just ridiculous in my opinion. It's only saving grace were a couple of funny moments.

Here's a thought. I've heard a lot of people say they didn't like Shinzon's motivation as a clone, that it came up flat and unrealistic that a clone could take over the Romulan empire. What if it was Seela instead? She does seem to have a special attachment to Picard and Co. And seemed to be well placed already when she was last seen.

My problem with Nemesis wasn't the clone's motivation or rise to power. It was that we had seen it all before. It felt like a by-the-numbers story that was phoned in. The parallels with TWOK were painfully obvious. It contained meaningless out-of-character sequences (Picard's dunebuggy race). And worst of all, YET ANOTHER Soong-type android as a major plot driver, which was never even the subject of speculation prior to the film.

Lore was never a subject of speculation before he actually showed up. So B4 never really bothered me. He seemed like the beta version, bugs in the software and all.

Although I will agree with the dunebuggy race. In several scenes it felt very much like Star Trek: Picard's Midlife Crisis.

But with Shinzon, I mean I liked him. But even so, he did seem a little two dimensional. And i wonder if someone like Seela would be better.

Shinzon, I didn't really mind at all. Would I have liked it better if it was Sela?

Maybe? I dunno. But I doubt it. The skinny blonde Romulan wasn't that intimidating on the TV show, I can't imagine she'd fly as a movie villain. Certainly not to mainstream audiences. I think it would have been seen as fan wank, which the film had quite enough of already.

Lore not being speculated on and then showing up was fine, that was a surprise twist. Another one showing up? That's just going back to the well because you're creatively drained. IMO, of course. :)

I can't imagine she'd fly as a movie villain. Certainly not to mainstream audiences.

There is nothing in the film designed to appeal to mainstream audiences.

Anybody here know anyone who is not a Trek fan but saw Nemesis anyway? What did they think of it?

I once had a friend who said she knew someone who saw "Star Trek: Nemesis" with no prior Star Trek experience and said it was "okay". I read a review of it suggesting that it purposely had more action than your average Star Trek movie so it could compete with Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and James Bond. I think that's a fair observation. Not that it worked, but I can understand the logic.

I think a good number of non-fans didn't mind the movie. It tends to arouse a more angry reaction in people who care deeply about Star Trek, and therefore, are more aware of its flaws because they're going to be more analytical about it. I think it generally provoked a "meh" out of non-fans while infuriating most of the fans. It wasn't a failure because everybody hated it, more because nobody loved it, fan or non-fan.

I find it cool that a lot of the posts have not the same choices.
My List

The Wrath of Khan
First Contact
The Undiscovered Country
The Search for Spock
The Voyage Home
Generations
Insurrection
The Motion Picture
Nemesis
The Final Frontier

Star Trek Generations
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek Nemesis
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

Generations was the perfect Trek movie. It had emotion, action, humor, and twists all in the right mix. The Voyage Home made me rofl, and yet had a sense of gravity about it.

Nemesis had too much action for actions sake, and they tried waaaay too hard to be funny in Final Frontier.

TWOK > TVH (Don't judge me but I love that it made Trek popular amongst other members of my family) > TMP > TSFS > TUC > FC > GEN > TFF > NEM > INS

Close to mine...:)

But I'd go :

TWOK
TVH
TUC
TMP
TSFS
TFF
FC
(big gap)
GEN=INS=NEM=not films, just episodes they decided to release in cinemas, and all equally as bad.

Very close with TMP getting the edge:
The Motion Picture
The Wrath Of Khan

Distant third and pretty much interchangeable:
The Search For Spock
The Undiscovered Country
The Final Frontier

Not even worth commenting:
The Voyage Home
Generations
First Contact

Garbage:
Insurrection
Nemesis
ST09

From best to worst

1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Motion Picture
3. The Search For Spock
4. The Voyage Home
5. The Undiscovered Country
6. Star Trek(2009)
7. The Final Frontier
8. Generations
9. First Contact
10. Insurrection
11. Nemesis

From best to worst:

1. TMP(Director's Edition)
2. TWOK
3. TUC
4. FC
5. TVH
6. GEN
7. TSFS
8. TFF
9. INS
10. NEM
