Rank the first ten films

1. First Contact
2. The Undiscovered Country
3. The Wrath of Khan
4. The Motion Picture
5. The Voyage Home
6. The Search For Spock
7. The Final Frontier
8. Insurrection
9. Nemesis
10. Generations

Insurrection is usually found near the bottom of many lists, and I agree, but I will say that it has some of my most favorite cinematography work for any of the TNG films. Also, I just noticed a minute ago (as I'm watching it now), when Picard, Riker, Troi, Crusher, et al, step into the turbolift (the remember when we used to be explorers scene), there are little monitors behind Picard that show the location and movement of the turbolift! NEAT! :D It just all adds into the overall look and feel of the movie, which I like, and is what has kept it from the bottom of my own list.

The position indicator in the turbolift was first done in TMP.

:D

See that white dot in the cargo area? It begins to move but Shatner was blocking most of it so you could not see it anymore.

Personal order of preference:

1. The Undiscovered Country
2. First Contact
3. The Final Frontier
4. Generations
5. The Wrath of Khan
6. The Voyage Home
7. The Search for Spock
8. Insurrection
9. Nemesis
10. The Motion Picture

The rankings usually change slightly, from time to time, dependent upon my mood, but they're usually within the same area. That said, the following ranking for the top ten are [with ST:XI having the top spot if that were included]:

Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek: First Contact
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: Insurrection
Star Trek: Nemesis

Wow you have FF in the number one spot!

It's my number 3.

An underrated masterpiece!

Personal ranking:

1. Wrath of Khan/Search For Spock (really think of as one movie as find TSFS bit pointless without TWOK)
2. The Final Frontier (flawed but cruelly underrated)
3. The Motion Picture (flawed masterpiece)
4. Nemesis (flawed but some good elements)
5. Insurrection (bad but cheesy fun; best watched with Frakes and Sirtis commentary which is a hoot :))
6. Undiscovered Country (good but feels dated, self-important and overrated)
7. First Contact (well directed but disappointing)
8. Generations (wasted potential)
9. Voyage Home (apart from INS, only one that feels like an overblown TV episode)

TWOK > TVH (Don't judge me but I love that it made Trek popular amongst other members of my family) > TMP > TSFS > TUC > FC > GEN > TFF > NEM > INS

Yes it is. It only dropped down to second (overall) because of ST:XI, and only did so after maintaining that spot for many years. The movie is near and dear to my heart for it's wonderful character moments, which vastly outpace any of it's other shortcomings, and feels like a real extension of the original series.

I thought too many of the character moments in that film were at the expense of the characters for it to rank very high in my list.

I thought it was pretty exciting, great pace, very camp in parts but it felt like TRIBUTE CAMP, the camp of love.

The Kirk, Spock, McCoy bonding was intense. In a good way. McCoy's line, "I liked him better when he was dead." has me  every time.

One of my fave Trek quotes comes from ST:V.

Rider: "I can't believe you'd kill me for a field of empty holes!"

J'onn: "It's all I have."

It has a GREAT opening sequence. I think the whole movie is one big bag of excellent candy. Eye candy, mind candy, laugh candy, heart candy.. and it's a mystery to me why so many think it terrible.

Amen. The actor who plays J'onn did such a wonderful job of conveying desperate hopelessness, that the transformation scene with Sybok just makes me wonder what kind of power the Vulcan actually possesses. I mean, we know that Vulcans are touch telepaths, but he seems particularly good at it (I like the novelization too).
