Randomly met Jerry Lawler today.

Yes, today I met Jerry "The King" Lawler at a tailgate for the Memphis football game.

There weren't many people around as it was pretty cold. I was preparing some food, and I heard a group approaching me. I turn around, and I'm standing face to face with the guy and some of his entourage. He's running for mayor right now, so he's trying to gather votes.

I haven't watched wrestling since I was a teen, but it was really cool to speak to him. He seemed a really nice guy. He stuck around for about ten minutes. He talked
a bit about wrestling, and let out a laugh when the Andy Kaufman feud was mentioned. Mostly it was Memphis politics, which I'm still getting a grasp on after moving here only 2 months ago. I am however a political science major, so I knew enough to discuss and debate with the guy. It's Jerry Lawler, so he's not a skilled politician, but his heart is in the right place. He's very bold and charismatic, but tries to oversimplify certain issues. like I said, a nice guy.

Anyone have a similar chance meeting with a famous person?

Last year I met with Gloria Lariva, the woman who was on the ballot running for President for the Party of Socialism and Liberation. She was going to have a rally, and so I decided to stop by. As it turned out, she was meeting in a library, and there were only 5 or 10 of us who showed up... so we hung around a folding table and talked. She is famous because she was on the ballot, but not very famous in that most people don't know about her party, or for that matter, her.

I also encountered the CEO of Starbucks while at a Starbucks downtown Seattle. It was last year as well, early morning before the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, at the Columbia Center branch. He was giving the employees there a pep-talk; I didn't actually speak with him (and seeing him isn't that unusual, since the Starbucks Corporate Headquarters is just down the street) but still, it was cool.
