Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

A debriefing sounds like when everyone on the ship takes off their underwear.

(...and yes, I'm still aware that it's military/starfleet for board meeting.)

Today I learned that the classic American showboats that once plied the Mississippi and Ohio rivers were actually show barges. They weren't self-propelled and required tow boats to move them from place to place. Makes sense, come to think of it -- if the interior of the boat is taken up by a huge theater auditorium, a stage and backstage spaces like dressing rooms and offices, where the hell are you going to put the steam boilers and engine?

And fifty years ahead of time, too. Damn Romulans!
I guess trolling really does predate the Internet. ;)

I remember my chorus singing a song about the showboat coming to town, and the singer losing his innocence in a big way (though he never really says what happened). So, a cool bit of historical trivia.

Of course, many modern cruise ships have a theater and engines... but they're over three football fields long. Don't think the showboats were that big.

^^ So it's a way to force consumers to buy parts from the manufacturer instead of an identical cheaper part made by someone else. Jesus, that ought to be illegal.
But it's not. $180 for an air filter when substitutes cost less than $100 on Amazon.

That’s when you just hold down and reset the dang filter changeout alert button. I bet you the water will still taste the same for another 3 months or more…

Item at Target was in the wrong spot so I scanned it to see what the correct price was and it told me the item I'm holding and just scanned wasn't in stock. Fortunately it scanned correctly at checkout. Sometimes out of stock items can ring up as $0.00 and the machine won't let you have it.

For the first time in my life I understand why my mom is worried about who will take of me if she's gone. I cancelled all my plans to spend a week at my grandparents place due to a bout of depression, I can't do that anymore within a decade or so when they pass. And when that happens I only have my mom left, because I feel like I can't do that with any of my friends. The only thing I can do then is going back to a psychiatry, not having someone you can count on when things are hard in the future will suck!
