Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I had a yearly physical today, and had some routine blood tests.

After having not even a pint, but two small vials of blood extracted, I passed out in the chair for like a minute.

It was a weird event for me, nothing like that has ever happened before. Not like I've never had a blood test before. Also an intense experience. I remember from a camp I went to in middle school, the other kids talked about what they called "Natural high". Which meant, somebody pushed down on your chest until you passed out, and then you had these intense vivid dreams. In retrospect as an adult, that's a terrible idea and I'm glad I never did it. But another kid who did it in front of me, he woke up in a confused fervor and says he had these intense dreams where he was luging.

It felt exactly like that. Before I passed out, it felt like if you have a fever and you get out of bed too fast. I remember planning what to tell the technician about how I was feeling. I had these insanely intense dreams. When I woke up, it took me like 15 seconds to figure out where I was and what I was doing. There was a period when being awake felt like part of the dream and I was like, who is this random woman in front of me asking me if I'm okay? When I realized where I was and what happened, she told me for a while my eyes were rolling back into my head. Finally experienced as an adult what those teenagers were inadvisably doing.

I was fine and able to drive home 30 minutes later, but it was still scary. Reacting like that to such a mundane medical test. They said it was some kind of vaso-reaction, a shock causing blood pressure to drop suddenly. But the first time a medical reaction like that outside my control had that kind of effect on me.

OK moral quandary time:

I have a parcel I have received from Amazon, it arrived a good 2 1/2 weeks before the estimated date. On the website now it still shows as being in transit, and that if not here by the 28th I can ask for a refund. I am debating doing the naughty thing but I really shouldn't should I?

Is the name "Gabers" derived from "capers"?
Are you thinking about its use in "Lower Decks" or in general?

In general, "Gaber(s) is either a toponym derived from a word for "hornbeam" (most common derivation in Germanic languages including English) OR comes from a root word with meanings of "mock" or "joke" that percolated into both Europe and Asia so similar names turn up in many languages all from the same root.

If it's LDS, then I have no idea!

No. Don't do it .That would basically be fraud.

Or dog owners to their dogs, like can you not?

Since having kids is problematic in today's two-income rent and expenses lifestyle, many people use their pooches as substitutes.

I TOTALLY baby-talk to my cat, but it's in the privacy of my own home.

Same with mine. Complete with calling myself "daddy" in the third person.

The Post Office had no stamps.

I'd be lost for words if I wasn't typing.

My post office has a machine that generates them.

No. You shouldn't.

I absolutely cannot stand it when adults use "baby talk ." If you are more than 4 years old , you should NOT use baby talk. It's annoying and really creepy.

I went to the Post Office to buy stamps. They didn't have any.

Except for Bugs?

I was just watching "Failure to Launch", and it didn't occur to me for a long time just how truly despicable Sarah Jessica Parker's character was.

I mean, she goes around, pretends to be interested in people until they've moved out of their parent's house, then presumably dumps them. Ending what may be the only romantic relationship they will have.

And the only shred of ethics she has is that she doesn’t REALLY mess them up emotionally by sleeping with them. Of course, she immediately violates this rule and it isn't even a big deal for her.

I guess it's easy enough to be ethical when you're dealing with an overweight lisping ASD fandom geek who only has a job because he can do thankless work no one else wants, and will bore you to tears with his 300 reasons why Harry Kim on Voyager should have been promoted*... but when you've got a hunky and personable subject, do what you want and never mind the harm done!

I have to say, when you have a Terry Badshaw butt-shot that's several minutes long and that's NOT the cringiest thing in your movie... well, you've accomplished something.

I will say, though, I got a good laugh from Matthew Mc-however you spell it bring assaulted by a dolphin. And the scene with the myna bird.

*Not a disparaging remark, that's a self description. Aside from the fact that I only have 30 or 40 reasons why Harry should have been promoted.

It's an interesting topic, the Amazon issue.

When is it ok to not be honest if someone makes a mistake?

I'm usually very honest, will tell restaurants if items/drinks missed off bill etc.

We did gain from a companies error, or negligence whatever you want to call it a few years back. We ordered some furniture online, a bar table set. Cost was around £350. Supposed to arrive in 2-3 days. Time passed, emails exchanged as no goods arrived. Promises will be there in x amount of days and so on. We let it go on longer than we should but in the end asked for a refund. Told ok will sort. days and weeks passed no refund, told it's because the accounts person is on leave etc etc.

This went on weeks, in the end I put a claim in on credit card. Got a refund via the bank.

Around 6 months later we received a full refund from the company involved. We kept it, probably wrong but just thought they were so terrible with their service it's their fault. Still worries me sometimes if we did the right thing.

Where do you draw the line on these things?

I used to be the person who corrected errors made in my favour. Increasingly, companies don't seem to know how to deal with this and you can get stuck in all sorts of rabbit holes. The most common is where the company assumes you are trying to make a complaint... It doesn't help that companies rarely seem to read past the first couple of lines of an email and appear to keep no records (something familiar to anyone who's ever tried to sort something out via a call centre). There is a limit to how much time I'm prepared to spend pursuing something that's of no advantage to me.

These days, I bother if the organisation is a charity or small business but big organisations, forget it. It's too hard.

I never liked this movie.... I just thought she was a despicable person

I was thinking of LDS. Sir Legnog's name is obviously derived from "eggnog", and the Klowahkans are of course a culture of foodies.

OK Amazon just emailed me

"We're very sorry that your delivery is so late. Although it may still arrive, you can request a refund now."

So obviously some kind of snafu has happened, but now I'm again having the bad thoughts
