Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I know this makes me sound like a boomer, but soda especially Coca Cola ruined our taste buds. Last year my neighbour wound op in the hospital with a broken ankle, when I said I would visit her she asked me to bring a pack of Cola zero's because she was sick of water.

Then my best friend wound up in the hospital because of an eye operation, also asked me to bring Cola with me because he found water disgusting. When I went to the psychiatry ward of a hospital for three weeks to treat my depression I drank water everyday without complaints, and when I will go the psychiatry I will also drink water every day without complaints and my stay will probably last months!

Not sure how that means Coca Cola ruined our tastebuds if water - a liquid famous for not having any real taste of its own - is something someone is "sick of." Especially if this person as been stuck in the hospital and drinking a lot of it. You can get sick of anything if you have too much of it.

Depending on the source, water is very plain. Where I live, tap water is very chlorinated, so it's pretty vile (even "disgusting" like your other friend said). Purified water is better, and spring water is really pleasant, but I would always prefer something less bland when I drink (unless it's after a workout - then water is just fine). Even a fruit infusion to give it some character helps.

Water is as dull as white bread. That's got nothing to do with soda. Maybe you just love water a whole lot. :)

I had to stop drinking Coca Cola a few years ago (doctor's orders, I'm not supposed to drink anything that contains caffeine anymore due to my blood pressure issues) and at first I thought I'd never make it without my favorite drink but nowadays I don't even miss it anymore. When I really want something a little sweeter I drink some iced tea, but I don't do that too often. I mostly drink water or peppermint tea now, and I'm perfectly content that way. :)

Perhaps I should phrase it differently. Cola is addictive even if it doesn't have cocaine in it anymore, it still has caffeine which can be quite addictive. It's sad that they're so addicted to Cola that they don't want to drink anything else
Well, that's a horse of a different color. While certain things about soda (or pop depending on where you live) are debatable - and often are - like anything else, in moderation it's just fine. It has no nutritional value and there are a lot of things better for you. However, I enjoy the zero calorie versions, again in moderation. Caffeine in drinks has no effect on me, as far as addition. My only "addictions" - and I use the term very loosely without any scientific support - are foods. Generally sweets. Specifically chocolate.

I have very little of a sweet tooth left.

Not only do I now despise pop, but I don't even eat candy or dessert much. Only time I really do is sometimes my dad gets me a box of See's candy. But apart from that...nothing. I just lost interest in the sweet stuff.

Agreed. It's addictive and on purpose. Caffeine, sugar and such all has a rush that is difficult to match with water.

I gave up drinking pop as part of my 2000 New Year's resolution. I switched to sparkling water and iced tea. I'll still drink pop if it's the only beverage available. My go to pop of choice is either A&W Root Beer or Sprite/7-UP.
apfelschorle (applejuice & spartkling water (50/50)?

I've upped my intake to two cans a week, just as a treat to myself. I know it's bad but this is one vice I am really weak towards.
Pepsi, Fanta and Sprite are my gotos.

What's a good attachment to get for a vacuum cleaner that will let you get carpeted staircases done without contorting yourself in the process.

Coke, regular, Diet or Zero, has a really small amount of caffeine, like 34-46 mg. I don't think I've ever gotten a rush off soda. Coffee has more caffeine and Janeway swears by it. :rommie:

Coke/Pepsi Zero, my go-tos, have no added sugar.

The demonizing of soda is weird. It contains no health benefits, and, sure, it'll probably rot your teeth in excess. But drinking it isn't a vice. Watching porn is a vice.

Drinking soda is no worse for you than having a brownie or a bowl of ice cream. Doesn't do any harm in moderation, but if you have too much of it, it'll impact your health and weight.

why is watching porn a vice?

Still addictive.

I place it under a nice, equally with coffee, nicotine and porn.

I used to love Fanta! (The German version, anyway. I've been told that the US version is quite different.) I can't drink it anymore these days because my stomach no longer agrees with it for some reason. (I'm getting old.)
