Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I am physically incapable of tanning.

My best hope is just to neutralize the blue.

srsly, I was in NYC once and happened to stumble across rehearsals for Spider-Man 3. I stayed to watch...way too long....without a hat.

By the time I left I had a bald head so sunburned you could cook eggs on it.

And the worst part about the whole thing? I never even got to meet Kirsten Dunst. :wah:

Fucking tik tokkers

Stupid women, some of them even locals encouraging other women to deliberately get sunburnt to get tan lines.

What is wrong with people?
The young have been "Brain Rotted" via Tik-Tok.

When I was growing up, we used to think lying in the sun nearly naked was actually good for you. After all, sunlight makes plants grow. But human beings (with some exceptions) aren't plants.
Expose your skin around midday

Midday, especially during summer, is the best time to get sunlight.
At noon, the sun is at its highest point, and its UVB rays are most intense. That means you need less time in the sun to make sufficient vitamin D.
Studies also show that the body is most efficient at making vitamin D at noon.
For example, in the UK, which is between 50 and 60 degrees north, 5 to 15 minutes of midday sunlight exposure between March and October, three times per week is enough to maintain healthy levels among Caucasian adults.
For most of the US, between 30 and 40 degrees north, the recommendation is between 4 and 15 minutes from February through November.
The commonly recommended daily dose of vitamin D is 20 mcg.
You don't need that much sunlight in one day, much less 1 week.

It's a very minimal amount, you still need it, but other than that, you should probably remain out of sunlight if possible.

I watched this video, realized it's possibly nothing more than advertising and not actually true and now I feel very sad for everyone that made this.

I thought getting a tan was really something older generations do.

Most younger people seem to have their heads screwed in I think and use high factor, shade etc.

I know it's a bit judgy, but when you see an older couple with a fantastic tan but deep wrinkles that have clearly been caused by it, i really do think no tan looks better.

Oh, it’s definitely still a thing with the younger generation… see it everyday out here in Hawaii! Some more common sense has slipped in, though, thankfully.

Cheers,

I never tan. I am so pale, I'm almost see-through!

Years ago, the nurse at my dermatologist's office was handing out sun-block samples, and when she got to me, she stepped back. "Honey, you don't need sunblock; you need a ROOF.'

Yes. Yes, I do.
I steal Stephen Merchant's line about the skin on my torso being translucent and that you can see my organs. And yet my arms tan. I've been working outside more so I get that. I have freckles and my friend Satish and I compared arms and he said I looked like salami.

I wish my arms tanned. I look like raw fillet of sole all the time. If I go out in the sun, I burn, it peels off and I'm back to zombie-pale.

I had 2 skin cancers sliced off my face a few years ago, because my husband used to love to spend hours on the beach and he insisted I cook along side him. I always burned first, then I tanned like crazy. I swear my husband could tan just walking by a light bulb. I blame those 70s beach days for the 2021 cancer. (and any others just waiting to bloom)

Test Cricket is the best format of the game. With day 5 happening in the Melbourne test. Going to watch as much as I can, until I have to head out later. Then listen to it on my phone. And then year is The Ashes. Planning on being there on Boxing Day for the Melbourne test.
My only exposure to cricket is episode of British shows where the characters are playing it, but it seems like a strange and confusing sport.

So we got the results from the ultrasound I got last week looking for the mass by my bladder, and it didn't see it. So now we're really confused, we don't know that means it's gone or if they just missed it or something else is going on. And some other things it found, make it look like whatever is going on is not good.
So now the question is how bad is all of this exactly.

So, a picture randomly popped up that I had to comment on. It's Trek related, but didn't really fit anything else so why not muse a little here:

One of the common complaints I see about Discovery is its too emotional. And, well, the above summarizes why Pike and Kirk are my favorite captains-they could be emotional and vulnerable with their comrades. I was often teased for being too emotional as a young man, and I am thankful for a father who shared both Trek and that its ok to cry with his sensitive son.

Does anyone go to bed early on New Years Eve? Maybe it's just me getting older, but the last few New Years Eve's and tonight included, I just want to go to bed and not wait till Midnight. I have a whole year to celebrate the New Year, so what makes the first midnight of the new year so important. Maybe it's relief of getting through another year. Maybe it's the hope springs eternal of better things. For me, and maybe I'm just grown more cynical, New Years Day is just another day.

With that being said,

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you have great things in store for 2025, and everyone has more positives than negatives in life. May Hope Spring Eternal for another year.

I've been going to bed early the last 3 or 4 years on New Years Eve

Certified night owl here. I’m not usually in bed before midnight on any other day, so not sure why I would do so on NYE either. :)

I understand that it’s a different situation for people who have to be up early the next day, though.
