Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. I have to walk the dog every day, but the hardest part is doing groceries and planning meals because it feels like I have to plan meals for two, and I'm not that great of a chef. I can cook a few things. He tore his pateller tendon in July and can't walk. I'm hoping in the next few months he might be able to.
Ow.

You don't have to be a great chef. I certainly am not but I have down 4 staple meals, usually involving chicken, that I can rotate or modify as needed, plus canned goods on the bad days.

I have a few meals that provide leftovers (Spaghetti being one) and I love to BBQ on the weekends, and I always try to have Salmon at least once a week.

He can still do things (He is going to try to cook something for tomorrow) but he can't walk for a while so it's not normal by any stretch.

I was flipping through the channels and stumbled across the movie 'A.I.', and it had reached the part where David and Gigolo Joe are approaching a submerged Manhattan, and they pass by the Twin Towers/World Trade Center; and I thought to myself, "Nothing dates a movie more than showing an establishing shot of the World Trade Center. Even movies set in the future." Pretty soon the Twin Towers will be gone for as long as they were standing.

Wow, I thought they had been around a lot longer than that.
I hate the new Nike commercial they kept showing the during the Olympics, the one narrated by Willem Defoe. I thought we were in time where most people were emphasizing good sportsmanship, and now this commercial comes out encouraging people to be as selfish and horrible as possible while playing sports.

I have a question regarding eye exams. I haven't had an Eye exam in maybe over 6 years and my glasses are pretty much wrecked (Keep falling off and all that). What is the difference between an Eye center at like Costco or Walmart and an official Optometrist? I don't have Eye insurance so I know I will be paying a lot, but really this is about replacing my glasses and I need to have the eyes checked anyway. Just wondering if there is anyone who knows this stuff better than me. I moved since the last time I got an Eye exam so I'm basically looking for a new place.

I don't know about Costco or Wal-Mart, but when I have my yearly exam, it's a full range of tests, especially now that I'm over fifty. They're looking for signs of cataracts, glaucoma, any macular degeneration. They also ask what the glasses will primarily be used for, indoor, outside, reading, looking at computer screens, under what lights. They also ask if I see 'stars' or 'floaters' and if so, how long they last. Do you get eye strain, headaches and if so, how frequently and where; towards the bridge of the nose, or the temples. They do the 'air pressure' test, and the last couple of times, they've photographed the optic nerves/cones. When it's all said and done, it's usually about an hour. Thanks to my insurance, I only pay the co-pay; however, the reason I'm paying a little more is because I'm having more tests done than a standard exam.

Some of the Walmarts and Costcops emplyo optometrists, usually as independent contractors. The rest of the eye center is for fitting glasses based on the prescription given.

Optometrists will take you through the standard exam, probably glaucoma test, and such.

I decided to set up and individual insurance plan for Vision $17 a month or $204 a year and get an eye exam appointment with the local optometrist at the beginning of September. It's just a lot of cost savings to get vision insurance and it's not that much all things considered. If the license says I need glasses to drive, they might as well work and not keep falling off, not to mention I haven't had an Eye exam for maybe 6 to 8 years. It's been too long.

Smart.

Yeah, vision insurance is weird. Even my employer only recently started having it as part of our plan. So, my family had been paying for another plan for the past 7 years. It's fine and we work with a local vision doctor.

Just keep the tape handy for your glasses until September :)

I work from home and walk a lot so other than appointments and the grocery store and gym I really don't need to wear the glasses that much.

Have the TV on in the background while working and a soap opera came on, and holy crap the writing is terrible! I don't know how I ever watched these as a kid. Don't know how anyone can watch them now. The plot moves at a snail's pace and they just repeat themselves over and over again, and nothing even matters because they can always change things after the fact. A character can die and have his organs donated and still return to life years later because somehow it was the master plan of the villain who has Q Continuum powers yet uses them for the most petty things. Or the 6-foot badass has been recast with a shorter actor and now that character is a pushover.

Is this new one month return processing at Amazon their way of trying to curb returns? Before when I made a return at a return location, I'd get credited within the hour.

The return location wasn't even staffed. I had to scan the QR code, put the item in a bag, then put a sticker on the bag, then the return box would unlock and I'd throw it in there.

Probably. People will always abuse a generous return policy. I remember the caps the retailer I worked for had to institute on several items. Generous in other ways but some items were problematic.

It was ridiculous at Wal-Mart, I don't know if it was company wide or just the store I was at, but the would literally take back anything, even if you didn't have a reciept. One time I saw one of the Petsmart charity plush dog toys in the toy returns bin, and far as I know they're made exclusively for Petsmart as fundraising for their charity.
