Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

who? i onlyknow vhristine keeler

She's one of the stars in the musical 42nd Street and other movies, long legs and fabulous dancing skills.

I'm on a Supergirl forum and just read a comment dubbing her as toxic optimism. Is that even a thing?

Well I've heard of toxic masculinity and that is a thing but toxic optimism? I looked it up and omg it is a thing.

OMG Kara Zor-El you have that
i'd say i'm a 85% optimist but a toxic one is at a 95% (or above) - that kind of optimism let you make mistakes which are not necessary. it's nearly as bad as a romantic politician; we had our share of such morons here (adolf, kaiser wilhelm, himmler to name just three of them)

I have to admit, "romantic" isn't really the first thing I think of when I think of those people.

Pretty sure it's not even in the top ten.

Yeah not the word I would have chosen
but it's where all the nonsense comes from - dreaming of the olden times (which never existed the way they dreamed them) instead of adjusting to the real world

had adolf been admitted to the kunstschule (which he was rightfully not) in wien he would at best have ended up as a footnote in a bad wikipedia article. but no, the reason must be: it was them - that he had worked as a reklamemaler (that is someone who painted billboards) for a jew and that he was given in for the ek I by a jewish officer couldn't be helped as in the good old times no german übermensch (he and most of his crew didn't fit that bill either) couldn't be hindered in his progress by them.

wenn willi gave the hun speech he saw himself as friedrich barbarossa or karl der große - he did the same in 1914 de facto giving the austrians card blanche with his nibelungentreue nonsense - to be fair he tried to stop it in kinda the 13th hour (i know that is usually the 11th hour) but his cousins were as raving mad as he was.

read about the wevelsburg and meet sir heinrich in his preferred role as king arthur's first knight or whatever ...

... btw, i don't say that to kinda play them down it's about the problem with romantics in politics and i can easily give you just a handful causing the american civil war

Ah, OK, you're talking about romanticizing the past. I understand what you mean now; I just typically think of the word "romantic" in a different context.

Just had a USPS driver deliver a package but not the regular mail, which won't be for a few hours. Ever see that before? I know sometimes they deliver on Sunday exclusively for Amazon, but this wasn't from Amazon.

You know, it just hit me: In The Godfather, how did the mafia guys manage to get that dead horse into the guy's bed without waking him up?

Yes. Been around forever.

How about how did they manage to swap the false horse head for a real horse head* for the actual shot without the actor, John Marley, knowing?

*Yes, it was a real horse head obtained from a pet food manufacturer who slaughtered about 200 horses per day, at least during the early seventies.

A directed-energy weapon that Remmicks people instead of vaporizing them when used on its maximum setting, just for the sheer horror and demoralization. :rommie:

Random fact of the day: There is no such things as mini pigs and if breeder or anyone tells you they are selling you one, then they're pants are on fire. Even the smaller pigs, like potbellies and Kune Kunes, get to be between 100lbs and 150lbs, and full grown farm pigs can get to be almost 1,000lbs. There are a lot of stories out there of people who bought a "mini" pig that turned out to be a farm pig, and ended up growing to 600lbs, 700lbs, or 800lbs.

Riker's haircut/beard on Picard looks like Abraham Lincoln.
