Maybe also the potential for unevenness between two sidewalk segments increases the risk of tripping and injury?
Speaking of sidewalks that cross driveways, it is not uncommon–in my neighborhood anyway–for the tail end of a car or pickup to be parked over said sidewalk, obstructing the way. That's the reason one of my mates gave (dropped pavements for drive ways etc)

that's not entirely correct. a traditional venture capitalist owns you and can run you into bankrupcy (happened to a couple of people i know) - kickstarter doesn't do that.I just read that fantasy author Brandon Sanderson did a Kickstarter, and raised $30,000,000, and it brought up something that's kinda bothered me in the past. I don't understand why popular, successful people like Sanderson use things like Kickstarter for their projects. I thought the whole point of crowdfunding was for the small projects from unknown creators who are wouldn't be able to get the money they need for their work any other way.
that Discovery cameo
