Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Is there a health difference between refrigerated juice at the grocery store vs. the juice that sits out there on the aisle?

Trying to look it up on the internet but I don't seem to be using the right words. I keep getting store-bought vs. homemade juice pages.

It depends on the content of the juice--what type, how many preservatives, how much sugar, etc.

I have found that sometimes, the juices that have to refrigerated tend to have fewer preservatives. Usually, the all-natural juices need to be kept cool so they don't spoil as quickly.

That's not always the case but I think it's a good rule of the thumb.

just saying

After ordering heating oil a week ago I got an invoice in the mail from them for $17.50 (For the difference between oil charged and delivered), with a note that says “$17.50 discount if the bill is paid by 2/26/22”.

I’m sure this is just their way of taking on the cost of price fluctuations in between payment and delivery. But the way it’s phrased it looks like I need to wave my hands and say “I declare this $0.00 bill PAID!!!” to avoid the charge.

I suspect more people than not wait to pay their bills close to the due date. I know my ex wanted to wait until right before the due date where I had always paid as soon as I got the bill. I noticed with the credit cards, the closer you pay to the due date, the shorter period between when the bill was issued and the due date. It was almost less than a week. After we split and I reverted back to paying promptly, that time extended to nearly a month.

would you care to explain why that is supposed to be good for you?

I pay my credit card bills as soon as the statements close. Why the hell should I wait until they're DUE? There's no reason to wait that long.

My utility bills, OTOH, are paid ON their due dates, because I have all of them paid automatically.

The longer time period means you are less likely to forget, easier to get forgiveness if you do happen to be a day or so late, and greater flexibility in paying (for example- waiting a day or so for a paycheck to come in or funds transfer to complete).

The ex was so ingrained that debt was bad that she wanted to pay off an auto loan with a 0.5% rate while money in the bank was earning 5.5%. She just couldn't see that we were earning more money with the loan that if we paid it off.

that was the only thing i came up with

all bank transactions within the eu are by law instateneous and paychecks (the literall ones) are a thing of the past (early neolithicum)

Time of transactions here in the US can still take a bit. I requested a transfer last Friday after business hours, Monday was a holiday, so the source bank didn't initiate the transfer until Tuesday and funds appeared in destination account on Wednesday.

The ex demanded that I walk her through all of our tax preparation and she was arguing with me about how the software phrased their questions.

How is the rest of your house progressing auntie? Are things getting sorted out?

Ugh. They still haven't replaced the damaged dry wall, fixed the messed up grout on the floor, or cleaned the paint and cement glopped up by the front door. Or fixed the deep scratches on the front door.

We have our services all set, all the furniture in place but can't put up our floating shelves or any of our pictures or art because we have to wait until they're done with dry wall. It's been a month and the house still isn't repaired. :sigh:

I want that rug for the TV room. Everything in the house is gray and white so I'm adding my required pops of blue with the curtains and hopefully, that rug. Hubby thinks it's too expensive. I disagree.

Sorry that things are taking so long. Fingers crossed that they'll get it fixed for you soon.

I always pay my bills right before they're due. To turn @Mr. Laser Beam 's question around, why should I pay them before the due date? There's no penalty for it, and I have access to my money longer in case of emergencies. I've done this for years, and my credit card companies still seem to give me almost a month after the statement date until they're due. I get paid every two weeks, so when I get paid I set up all upcoming bill payments in web banking that I've received since last time, and set the payment date to two business days before the due date. The bank transmits the money the following business day, and that gives an extra cushion in case something goes wrong. And if I need to, I can cancel the payment anytime until end of day on the day it's scheduled for. That way nothing gets forgotten and I don't have to worry about it.

The only one that causes me problems is Bell Canada, because their bill only arrives about a week before the due date, which always messes up my two-week cycle. I called them once to complain about such short notice, when every other company I deal with gives 24 - 30 days, and they said it was due to their billing system and couldn't be changed. It's been a slight bit better since they switched to e-billing, since you don't have to wait the extra couple days for it to come in the mail.

I took a look at a website for a store up here. For a similar-sized rug, the absolute lowest I could find was $260, which should be around $200 American. Most of them were around $400 (US$308) and some went up to $800 (US$615)! So not only does yours sound like a reasonable price, it sounds like a bit of a steal, at least compared to the market up here.

Besides, it's a really lovely rug, and you deserve to treat yourself after all the stress you've gone through over the last few weeks! :)
