Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

don't we have enough people in sports who were 'trained' when they were incredibly young?
Hardly, especially in Mechanical Motor Racing of any sort since that requires access to expensive hardware and has VERY HIGH safety risks. Especially since RISK OF DEATH is VERY HIGH in any of the Mechanical Motor Racing sports.

and that's what we need for 13 year olds?

steffi graf was three years old when her ever loving daddy got all drill instructor on her and that was just tennis. in my books it should be about the kids not daddy's or mommy's dreams.

You don't get to be masters of ____ without training at a very young age.

Regardless of how you feel about the parents imposing their "Dreams" on their children.

I'm pretty sure 14 y/o Lia Block has no objections to starting her road to becoming a master of racing, years before she can legally own a Driver's License. She's already got a future set for her thanks to her Dad's Connections / Career as a acclaimed Race/Drift Car Driver. And Yes, Mom is there on the race track, observing as well from the side-lines.

Steffi Graf is a record setting Multi-Time World's #1 Women's Tennis champion. She should be thankful to her parents that she got that training because now, she's a living legend.
Graf retired at the age of 30 in 1999 while she was ranked world No. 3. She is regarded as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. Martina Navratilova included Graf at the top of her list of the greatest players ever. In the year of Graf's retirement, Billie Jean King said, "Steffi [Graf] is definitely the greatest women's tennis player of all time."[14] In December 1999, Graf was named the greatest female tennis player of the 20th century by a panel of experts assembled by the Associated Press.[15] She married former world No. 1 men's tennis player Andre Agassi in October 2001. They have two children. Graf was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004. Along with Boris Becker, Graf was considered instrumental in popularizing tennis in Germany, where it remains one of the foremost national sports
I'm sure her children with Andre Agassi will grow up to be World Champion Tennis Players in their own right.

years ago when michael schumacher was still active they showed a report on german tv why that is rather unlikely. got sth to do with withstanding accelerating forces which apparently is hard bodily work. if you want a chance to win anything as a woman you better become a rally driver

True, also in race car driving sponsorship is crucial and men probably get sponsors more easily. Just it looks like Danica Patrick peaked at #24.

I see no reason we can’t find a way to train children to excel at things from a young age while also keeping attention to their mental health. Talent mastery and mental health are only put at odds with each other because of the toxic stage parent culture surrounding it. There’s no reason they need to be.

If we’re on the subject of tennis stars though, imagine how much better a career Jennifer Capriati could have had if she wasn’t pressured so much.

I think I got blocked by one of the horseback riders I follow on Instagram. I noticed it wasn't in my list of accounts I follow, and wouldn't come up in the searches. So I went to one of her friends who I knew linked to her page, and when I clicked the link I got a blank page. So I logged out and did a Bing search and the page came up, but as soon as I logged back in it said it was unavailable. I did make what I thought was a fairly innocent comment, but I don't know if maybe she took it as offensive and blocked me. Her horse had her head on her shoulder, and they were giving each other kisses, and so I commented that I liked the little kisses.
EDIT: Or I might have said love the little kisses, but either way I just thought it was cute, and didn't mean anything offensive by it.

She might have taken offence, but if someone's put off by such an innocuous comment then I think it's more they're the problem not you. Sometimes it sucks to meet the people you "admire" or whatever. Just don't take it to heart.

Yeah, I realized that I can't help it if someone misinterprets an innocent comment, so oh well... guess I just move on and give up on following her. I just kind of wish I had gotten a chance to explain or apologize, but .

Assuming it was something she loved (I know or care nothing for sports and thus know little to nothing about athletes): sure. If not, all the tennis records and trophies in the world won't buy a happy childhood.

If they want to...

Things I never thought to understand, because I was fortunate enough to never have to understand them: The reason many canes have an arced handle is so you can hang it from your arm, while you make use of both your hands at once. A sobering thought I just realized.

a dog facillitated my first chopper ride (it was free but i didn't see much as i was on a stretcher) - i'm a canophobe, nothing else - i don't change the street side when i see an unleashed horse (i do that for dogs above a certain size)

I would personally have to judge the situation. And that would be an un-haltered horse.
