Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Just thinking about what I'll be doing on February 2nd and February 22nd of this year, at twenty-two past two.
It'll be 2.2.22 2:22 or 22.2.22 2:22.
And there's AM and PM to consider.
I could even wear a tutu.
I'll see myself out.
And you could even observe it a third time in the day at 22:22!
A fourth:
22:02 on 2-2-2022

Yeowtch! I hope he gets relief soon!

Thank you all for the positive thoughts. The hospital did a real COVID test (the swab up the nose to the brain) and that was negative. They also did *3* CT scans - head, chest, and stomach - one chest x-ray, and, of course, bloodwork.

I need to pause here and explain that I have teeny tiny veins that like to roll away and hide. When I had surgery last month, getting the IV in required 2 tries in the left hand and then eventually getting the head nurse to put it in the right hand. So I don't go to the hospital unless I really really really think I need to.

This IV had to be further up the arm because of the CT scan dye. The nurse tried and had to stop. A tech wanted to try, but thankfully a tech with an ultrasound machine came in. Even with that, he had "walk the IV in", which took 45 zillion years while I squeezed my hubby's hand and swore a lot at the pain.

In the end, they decided I was severely dehydrated, gave me fluids and prescriptions for meds, and sent me home a bit after midnight.

My hubby has been pushing gatorade and BART foods on me since we got up Sunday. I'm starting to feel a teeny bit better. There was something on my liver in my one CT scan they want my GP to send me for an ultrasound for. The ER doc didn't seem worried, but... yeah, I'm trying not to think too much about it.
All the newer imaging gear can now see things that used to be safely ignored.

Ugh, that sounds very not fun.
My veins can be kind of hard to find too, I've had a lot of medical issues that require a lot of bloodwork, and there have been a few times they've had to dig around and try few times to hit one.
And I had to get a scan with the dye back when I was like 15, and I remember getting it injected was one of the weirdest things I've ever felt, it was cold and I could actually feel it moving through the inside of my arm.

Mine was warm, which was nice for a moment as I was freezing! But yeah, a *very* weird feeling.

Hey, when in history did human males start shaving their facial hair?

Is it one of those things nobles at one point started doing to show off their status and then it rippled down the economic ladder?

Edit: Oh, it was a lice thing in ancient Egypt, and then later Romans made it the norm to spite the Greek. Huh.

Henry VIII’s Beard Tax
by Miriam Bibby
There’s a bit of a mystery about the beard tax imposed by Henry VIII, and it’s not just the mystery of why the heck anyone would want to put a tax on facial hair. After all, there have been many instances of odd taxes. It’s all part of the tax-collectors’ ongoing efforts to squeeze an extra groat or two out of the populace, and they can’t be accused of lack of imagination in that department.

Over the centuries there have, for example, been taxes on windows, wallpaper, hearths, salt and, in ancient Rome, urine. At certain points in history it’s been impossible to light yourself to bed with a candle in the house you built of bricks without paying a tax or two.

Edit: As Ben Franklin once said, "There is nothing this life so certain than, Death and Taxes."

Soul Asylum's Runaway Train song. The missing kids were they ever found?

I know its been a long long time but just wondering if the kids ever got found or they pretty much dead or whatever since their old photos were shown on the old Runaway Train music video?

Hi urrutiap,

These kinds of random, yet hyper-specific questions don't really need to be their own thread. As such, I am moving it to the "Random Thoughts" thread. (I will also edit the thread title into the body of the post for clarity.)

Anyway, to answer your question, Wikipedia has some information on some of the outcomes you are wondering about.

Saw something possibly unintentionally crude on one of the color by numbers apps, Tap Color Pro. I was working on a drawing of a young woman in a low cut dress riding a horse (I know me and horses, right?), and while I was looking for a section to color I noticed that her boobs were 69. I know it' immature, but I couldn't help but laugh. I'm not sure if it was intentional though, because there were other 69 areas, and most of these apps seem to come from countries where English isn't the primary language, so the people that set it up might not be aware of the whole 69 sex thing.

WHOA...Nellie!!!

These are just coincidences, but man, people accurately predicting stuff about films years in advance makes me giggle.
This guy in 2018 guessing Endgame's title. Okay it's not hard but it was funny seeing the response.

This guy talking about Tom Hardy playing Bane and hinting at his future comics villain role. (okay not really)

And this guy accurately predicting the name of the third Kelvin film, eight years before it even premiered!

And to that last bit, well, they could always go full circle with a sequel to Strange New Worlds...

edit: Wow, I was just reading up on Simon Pegg and his biography states:
"Upon completion of Shaun of the Dead, Pegg was questioned as to whether he would be abandoning the British film industry for Hollywood, and he replied, "It's not like we're going to go away and do, I don't know, Mission: Impossible III", picking the title of an imaginary blockbuster. When the film Mission: Impossible III was subsequently made, Pegg appeared in it as Benji Dunn, an IMF technician who assists Tom Cruise's character Ethan Hunt."

the newest firefox update apparently uses your 'theme' for deciding how to display sites. as i use a trek theme (ent) which is rather dark (they all are) i get some sites (not trek bbs) with white text on a black background which i consider to be a nuisance. why isn't there a checkbox under 'ansicht' (probably 'view' in an english speaking fox)? fuck them!

There was a "My Rewards" pin in my McDonald's order today. Don't know if it was a prize for using reward points for the x time to get something for free or if that particular restaurant was just handing them out, but I don't get the purpose of it. Who would wear it besides McDonald's employees?

Did the usual spider check of the shower stall before taking a shower, didn't see any and left to pick up a fresh towel before starting the water. When I checked out the stall before starting the water, THIS time there was a long legged spider by the showerhead. Tried to smash him but he did the usual spider drop maneuver. I looked all over until I spotted him pretending to be a ball of hair on the wall. Tried to get him again and he dropped and disappeared again. So frustrating! Then I spotted him trying to scuttle under the mat. I finally scooped him up and sent him to a watery grave. At least I thought it was the same spider....Took a very hot shower just in case there were others.
