Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Well I personally don't drop that middle syllable but I get your point. Though I do find it a bit, well cheeky, given you just sent me to site that advocates dropping the 'shire' off a word....:guffaw:
that's not my problem - my problem is what americans think liberal means (it doesn't) - liberal litteraly means free or in a free manner - it got zilch to do with socialism or a nanny state (i blame the discarting of latin in your schools)

Well SOME Americans, anyway....so far your generalizations haven't applied to me.
Also in New England. My husband's uncle lives in "Wooster" MA.
At least Worcester MA doesn't have that 'shire' part that we're supposed to drop...

last week i overheard one of my gp's ladies talk on the phone and thought he'd kicked the bucket (she said: he has died and we don't know how it is going on). as i knew he was hospitalised i asked her what's up - her answer: no, no, not him. the one who died is dr e... - now i need a new cardiologist

Drivers where I live need either learn to fucking patience or to fucking look before they turn. I'm getting really tired of people turning in front of me, and cutting me off when I'm crossing in a crosswalk, at an intersection, with the walk sign up. I always check to make sure no one is moving before I go with the walk sign, and then when I'm about half way across, cars keep cutting me off and nearly hitting me. It's happened at the same intersection on my last two bike rides, and it's really pissing me off.

All the shittiest drivers come to Arizona!

What's that thing where some drivers just stop on a green fucking light? Happens here a lot the light changes and for some reason some of them just stop then try to take off but its too late and the light changes on them and they wait for the next green and then take off. It's so annoying if you are in a car behind them.

Maybe you are behind someone who actually uses start-stop technology?

I have never seen that happen around here, but it does remind me of the old joke.

Two guys are out driving somewhere. As they approach a red light, the driver suddenly guns the engine, and speeds through the intersection.

"What the hell, man?!" exclaims the passenger, as he grabs the dashboard in white-knuckled fear. "You just sped through a red light!"

"Don't worry," the driver says nonchalantly, "my brother does it all the time!"

The passenger lets it go, and the two continue on. But shortly, they drive up to another red light, and the driver floors the gas pedal and speeds through again.

"C'mon, man! This is insane! Stop doing that," yells the passenger.

"I said not to worry about it," replies the driver. "It's fine. My brother does it all the time."

The passenger reluctantly lets it go again. But soon, they approach another intersection. The passenger starts to get nervous, but is relieved when the light turns green as they draw near. The driver, however, applies the brake, and brings the car to a stop.

"What are you doing now?" the passenger asks. "The light's green!"

"Oh, well," replies the driver, "you never know when my brother might be coming the other way."

One year ago today, my sister-in-law's life support was turned off and she drifted away to death. Liane had just turned 50 in July.

In May 2017, my hubby and I went on a cruise with her, her son and his girlfriend (now wife), and my mother-in-law. In the middle of the ocean, she had a stroke. If you think you know what that looks like from TV, you don't. It took several minutes before her son (who once trained as an EMT) figured out what was happening and took her to the ship's doctor. The whole thing was surreal. We eventually got to Nassau, where she was taken to a hospital. She was released a few days later and we all flew home through arrangements my mother-in-law managed to make.

Liane recovered mostly fully. But there were always concerns, so in August 2020 she underwent brain surgery to prevent another stroke from happening. Something went wrong.

I miss you, Liane.
