Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I have a fever. And when I have a fever, I always have fever dreams that involve solving some sort of puzzle. Makes no sense when I'm awake and look back at it, but while I'm having a fever dream the puzzle really beats me up and I wake up exhausted. Currently I'm lucid, but when I fall back asleep I'll go right back into puzzle-solving mode. Fevers suck.

I'm not sure what Conan the Barbarian has to do with either Flat Earth or space ships.
how would a scientific mind evolve in a flat-earther society?

... i didn't say a sci-fi show on a flat planet i said a flat-earther sci-fi show (that makes them flate-earthers those in charge and scientificly minded people heretics (this is where a conan the barbarian like justice system come in)

Okay, what the hell is a Conan the Barbarian-like justice system? There are several different nations in the Hyborian Age the Conan stories are set in, and there are many different justice systems.

There is also no mention of the Earth being considered flat by the people of the Hyborian Age in any of the stories I've read. Neither did any of the sea-faring people talke about falling over the edge of the world, nor did the priests and wizards advising the rulers of the Hyborian nations ever talk about the shape of the Earth. Several of them actually showed signs of higher astronomical understanding. Plus, Conan himself encountered Yag-kosha, an alien creature explicitly from another planet, in the story "The Tower of the Elephant".

And I still don't follow how space ships factor into this at all.

Hope you feel better soon.

okay, i could have taken xenia, kull or any other of that stuff as an example for a society believing in a flat earth and dealing out edged justice to whoever doesn't agree to doctrine - unfortunately i took conan (i only saw one movie and decided that to be more than i needed of that stuff during my life time) and ran into an expert.

mea culpy mea maxima culpa

spaceships need science and science needs curious people to keep their heads and not losing them as heretics.

if we hadn't been that obedient to (religious) doctrine here in europe for far too long we'd probably discuss that in a mcdonald's (or whatever) in schiaparelli city on mars.

I saw either a meteor or a UFO go past our house and the neighbor's house last night.
I was out with the dogs shortly after 1AM, and a white light shot over our house and past the neighbors house really fast. It moved way to fast to be a plane, and it was one solid light, not the group of little lights you see when airplanes are as close as this was.

Nah...it was a meteor fragment.

I do wonder if, in Trek canon, UFO's were actually assorted aliens violating the whole "primitive planet, leave it alone" rule. Maybe some of them are unethical scientist types, doing the equivalent of us capturing new exotic species of animals in the Amazon.

Not sure how to explain the "probes", though.

Or if a lot of people who mysteriously disappeared and were deemed runaways were actually taken as slaves.

Or rescued from certain death, then taken as slaves. David Weber's "The Excalibur Alternative" tells a story of something like that happening.

Better slaves than dinner. The last meteor(ite?) I saw was a greenish-blue and it flew horizontally across the road in front of our car one evening. The other one I saw hit and bounced in a plowed field and was glowing red.
