When I was a kid growing up there were lots, and lots of toy commercials on TV then I think it was sometime in the late 80s or possibly early 90s they phased out toy advertising in Australia, and I don't know why they had this nanny state idea that toy advertising was bad but it was a thing. For a while they did vanish from TV screens. So why did the government think it knows best?

The US put restrictions about toy ads tied to programs around the same time. There was also pressure to the TV stations about the number ads towards children and requirements to run more PSAs (Public Service Announcements). As a result, we got this:

Watching Prometheus and then Alien Covenant what's the deal with the Engineer people? They can build hyper advanced ships that can travel to Earth and back, and deadly living weapons that rewrite DNA yet they dress like they are primitive people living almost in the stone age, and their world didn't seem all that advanced at all.
