Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

The senior place my mom lives now has one person who tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Only good news it is a new person there who had not been around the others yet. But haven't been able to see my mom for over 2 weeks now. And she has to stay in her room. It is hard for her. But I am glad she is okay so far. I am very concerned and have days where I am scared and worried. My emotions are all over the place anyway. Also my husband is now working from home. He had to clear a space in our cat's room! So half the room is now for his work and the other for the cat. She has an enclosure that he built for her. It is pretty neat. I miss my mom and it is hard because dad has only been gone 2 years now...

do you have a "good-side" and a "not-so-good-side", not morally speaking but appearance wise?
I was updating my avatar and found another picture of Rachael, again from the Right.
I was thinking, maby its her good-side...
Then i was thinking, has all ppl good/bad sides, and what are they? Left or right....?
And then i was thinking about making a poll... but now im of to work so it's not going to happen...
I will just have to guess, and the result are 54% favor the left side of them self.

Thats a random " fact."

Nothing's been creepier about this crisis for me, than for the 1st time in my career, the world at large is using the term PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) more than the people I work with, who say it daily. Oh my, that's unsettling, like if one day a chef woke up & every news station was talking about filleting knives. Y'all getting a glimpse into my world right now.

Or maybe McFly men are just attracted to women who look like Lea Thompson.

srsly, I wouldn't read too much into it. They just wanted to rehash the scene in the first film when Marty wakes up in 1955. And of course they wouldn't do that with any actress but Lea.
The idea that they could have made that couple his great-great-grandparents on his maternal side apparently didn't come to mind, did it. :p

What line are you in? (Just curious because I work in PPE most of the time myself, though propably a different kind than yours)

I'm a surgical instrument reprocessing technician. I take the used surgical instruments & make them usable again. I kill germs for a living, & as such I must wear protective gear half the time (When I handle the used contaminated stuff)

Fortunately, our PPE can be slightly different than the things patient care providers need right now, but who knows, in a crisis, they may come for our stuff too eventually, because it does have similar function, but under most circumstances, I don't have to worry about the patients coughing, breathing or touching everything, while I'm working. It's all contained in tabled bundles that I carefully break down. We can actually get by with recleaned face shields, & launderable gowns etc...

Also in my area, we've actually been largely shut down for now. No one is doing much surgery, unless they absolutely must. The resources & nursing staff are needed elsewhere. So as time goes on, we'll maybe go 50% staffing, or get loaned out to other departments who have an increase of cleaning needs (i.e. patient equipment, like respirators getting turned around)

But so far, in my area we aren't overrun like that, & we're just holing up for the most part. I've actually taken off some of this week to social distance like everybody else. I have an elderly diabetic parent & an immunosuppressed brother. So it seemed wise.

cool job! I have to disinfect my pincers myself. I use the ultra-fine Dumont #3 but sharpen them to about 50 µm at the tip and even that's sometimes too plump. For really fine work I use a 5-10 µ hooklet pulled from a molten Pasteur pipette.
My PPE can best be described as an overall condome: I wear waders /rubber trousers and shoulder-length rubber gloves. Occasionally a lifevest as well, but not if I can avoid it (it hampers my movements and is a risk in itself). I'm working as a freshwater biologist. Unfortunately, fresh water is polluted more often than not. I often have to take samples near sewer outlets, at manure spills or below hospitals (to see if their sanitizing tanks in the isolation wards work properly). On the down side, I am constantly exposed to all sorts of germs, on the up side, that's the perfect training for my immune system :)
The forceps come into play in the lab where I determine water insects. Usually, that requires taking them apart. Basically, I'm doing micro-surgery (imagine dissecting a 1 mm beetle to extract his penis - no kidding! that bit is the only distinguishing feature between 4 species of Elmids)

Right now on my mind is that the coronavirus will probably kill everyone I know, and I will watch them slowly suffer and die. It will take my girlfriend last and then I will finally get sick and go.

Those are the only thoughts I seem capable of having this morning. Xanax taken. Not helping yet.

We have forceps like that, we generically call them micro jewelers forceps. They get used for everything from standard tick removal to intricate vascular surgery. For a fine tip hook, There's things like Rosen picks for ear surgery or micro nerve hooks for neurosurgery. Even a standard skin hook can be that fine & sharp. Needless to say, I pay close attention to where I'm sticking my chubby digits, when they send it all back.

^ that sucks! Is there an organic reason or is it psychologically triggered? Just curious as my sis suffers from a rare desease where she gets no deep sleep at all. She sleeps at 5-10 min intervals and is rather a wreck, most of the time :(

Cool! Thanks for the tip! That'll be the first thing I'm going to order on Monday. If they are not too costly, that is. I had to fight tooth and claw to get micor-scissors at 100 $.
Am I right to presume that to use the micro nerve hooks you need a micro manipulator? (I have to dissect manually - no such luxury for me *sigh*)

I'm quite worried today: my sister in law volunteered as a Corona nurse and is on the way to her first assignment atm. I do hope that while taking care of others she won't forget to take good care of herself!
