Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

If the all the people in America stood on one another's shoulders... they would cover the distance between the Earth and the Moon!!!
I heard that NASA plans moon missions again but got their budget cut. Is that their backup plan for getting back up there again?
If so, I vote for Trump going on top and everyone else getting back down quickly as soon as he's safely up there. It'll be a small step for him but a huge one for mankind :D

Well you have those crazy NPC theories about people. Of course I think all people are real. I have a theory though that all people are mentally ill and crazy. Mental Stability is a ruse or a lie people tell themselves and are better at hiding their insanity and also becoming self-aware can only happen with insanity being part of the picture.

Being alive is being crazy... That's my theory and I'll stick to it.

The bad news is that only the eight thousand people at the bottom or so, will get breathable air, everyone else will die of asphyxiation.

Why do we say “nice to meet you” when we first encounter people? You don’t KNOW yet!
that's precisely the reason why :D After you get to know people, the positive feelings occasionally vanish quite quickly

If I were one to pray, I'd be praying for death.
I'm very glad you aren't into prayin!. IMHO the shittiest life is still a good deal better than the best death. I hope you'll feel better really soon. Is there anything we can do to help? Don't hesitate to tell us.

I've just noticed Smash Mouth and Barenaked Ladies weren't the same group. Which I have no excuse for because I was in my late 20's in the late 90's. I swore the people who sang "One Week" and "Walking on the Sun" was the same people. Thing is I was aware of both names but I guess I got confused as to who sang which song. I was listening to "One Week" and noticed something that didn't quite make sense. Their kind of fat guy wasn't the one I recalled who was the one in Smash Mouth. Frankly he was the only guy out both bands I could even recall any kind of mental image of. Is he Smash Mouth or was that the name of all of them? What I recalled most was the references to X-Files,Frantic and so forth and them driving around in the General Lee. With Smash Mouth I only sort of recalled their music video with them partying on some "Gidget" style 60's beach.

Feeling a combination of annoyed and accomplished right now because I finally thought of the perfect solution to a math problem I encountered five years ago.

The problem is, using N coin flips, what's the optimal way to simulate the greatest amount of fair die rolls?

I looked for ways to assign combinations 1-6, then look for orthogonal superstructures of those results, and so on, and so on, but never got close to the theoretical max efficiency of log(2)6 coin flips per die roll.

It just hit me randomly out of nowhere today. Express the coin flips as a binary number starting after the decimal point. In other words, Heads, Heads, Tails, Heads, Tails = .00101...

Then just transform this binary number into a hexal number, and those are your die rolls. Any digit that can't be changed by any future possible coin flip is a fair result. So if your number is expressed in hexal as .44512003, then just add 1 and your die rolls are 5, 5, 6, 2, 3, 1, 1, 4. This solution gets you the absolute maximum theoretical efficiency.

I'm happy I finally got it, but mad it took me five years.

I would hope that if I were feeling better I could share your joy (and understand it).

If you really did solve it, congrats!

I think my ex brother-in-law is going to be deported back to India which I assume has something to do with Trump. He came over here I am guessing 10 or so years ago on a student visa and when it expired he stayed here. He was in the process of becoming legal when he married my sister but then they broke up and I guess he didn't do something he was suppose to do in terms of meetings or paperwork so now he might be sent back. They say if he goes he can't return for 15 years even though he has kids here.

I feel bad but I got mixed feelings on him as a person. He always comes off nice but he has a major drinking problem as in he has to get drunk every single day. Plus he can be childish when he gets drunk and will break things. Not sure how this stuff works for my niece and nephew. My sister was born in America and so are they but who knows if that will matter with the way things are going.

He should have done the right thing...

Maybe but deporting someone over a small mistake seems wrong. It's like going to prison for showing up 5 minutes late for traffic court to take care of a speeding ticket.

Jason
If it's a small mistake he might be fine. At the end of the day we have to respect the laws of the land. I was not born in Australia and had to actively secure my future here by becoming a citizen. That is and was on me. No excuses.

Things are always a matter of minutes or of one little infraction. Say you've reached the limit that a judge allowed to reach before you go to jail, you've been warned several times that the next time could be that last but you've kept breaking the law again and again, you could be jailed for a small infraction. But it's not the small infraction that caused you doing time, it's all the ones that preceded.

Same thing if you're a weightlifter, when you've reached your limit, even a few grams will make it impossible for you to lift it and you could say: "But it's only a few grams!!"
