Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Easier than socializing. People are scary.

People are not scary, it's just this thing with people getting their endorphin fix by staring at a tiny screen while their device makes "boop boop" noises, well you know what I mean. I'm going to edit my post because I just realised that I did not word it right and I feel like I hadn't said my piece properly.

Two things about my work day today:

- A customer bought something called "Liquid Death". And it's just fucking WATER! What the fresh hell is a phrase like that doing on a container of SPRING WATER? It should be weapons-grade whiskey with a name like that!
It's only water? I've seen it, but I had assumed it was some kind of really strong booze with a name like that.

Well I grew up on the 70s and 80s so went through the whole home computer revolution in that period and had a few machines of the period.

I get what you mean but at least growing up in the 70s and 80s you didn’t have the computer with you EVERYWHERE.

More recently I was an instagram and facebook person for many years and towards the end of last year I killed all my accounts. I had just come to that place where I feel it's a big distraction and it's designed to distract you. I can't understand how on the train to town some mornings when I have to go there for things you see almost everyone just staring into their phones. It's depressing

Hey i’ve just done a similar thing! Little background, in 2 months i have exams that determine the grades I apply to university with and for the engineering course i want the grades i need are high as hell. The screentime on my phone was HORRENDOUSLY high (i’m not going to say it because it WILL put someone that reads it into a coma) and i always felt like i never had time to do anything (i barely managed to get all my schoolwork handed in). Anyway a couple days ago i made the executive decision to switch to a bloody flip phone instead of a smartphone (i still have my smartphone because it’s expensive af, and i need a way to scan my homework and upload it for school and stuff, but it has no sim or apps other than default and school and i use it extremely minimally and don’t take it anywhere) to help focus on studying and actually get back to my hobbies. This will lowkey sound stupid but bear with me, i was hella addicted to social media without realising. Literally any time there was a tiny moment of boredom i’d be on my phone (waiting for my bus, waiting for class to start, on my bus, walking, etc) on TikTok!!!! I just think some people are lucky to have grown up in a time without it being so SO easy and expected to have such a USELESS thing like social media as an addiction/permanent and normalised thing constantly. so far i’m liking my flip phone (except typing that sucks), i’m trying to use it as my phone until at least my exams end

I love your post, and can relate to it. I keep my smartphone at home on wifi with no sim as well and am using a Nokia flip phone. Smartphone is for checking email and stuff while I go out everywhere with my flip phone also a Nokia.

I haven't had the urge to go back to Instagram or Facebook for 4 months now and feel happier.

It amazes me how early the roosters around where I live start crowing. I always thought they weren't supposed to start until the sun came up, but we get up before sunrise to walk the dogs, and they're already crowing.

I can understand wanting their privacy, but I really think in a situation like this, it would have been better to just say what was going on, rather than leaving everybody wondering, and letting all of the conspiracy theories start.
A number of reputable news outlets are reporting that a Russian-based disinformation group amplified rumors about the Princess' health.

i love my lil nokia, though it must be said i did value it being pretty than some other stuff (basically everything i own is green so it had to be green) but as soon as i transferred my music to it it was chill! i have a little notebook for my bus times and whatever else, im trying to find a wallet since i now don’t have apple pay, and a planner since i don’t have the notes/remindeds app. Honestly though it’s more just… giving up the most convenient way i guess. I don’t know how similar your experience is to that but that’s just my observation so far.

Well done!!! i’m only a couple days without TikTok but i feel like after a couple weeks i (hopefully) won’t even think about it lol

btw obviously i’m not telling everyone to ditch social media/smartphones i just have little self restraint (i knew just deleting the apps on my smartphone wouldn’t work for me, or setting locks on it because i would find a way around it)

I feel our experiences are fairly similar. I honestly feel like I get more things done now without the distractions.

Is there a word for not being able to fall asleep if you know you have to wake up early in the morning? I have to be up in four hours.

Imagine if we named nukes the way legendary weapons like Kusanagi or Excalibur are.
"The war goes poorly for our side. The Enemy grows in strength and advances by the day. It is time to free Second Sun from its silo and rain cleansing atomic fire upon the horde!"
fat man? little boy?

Don’t know what thread is right for this but whatever. Does anyone have any film recommendations with exceptional camaraderie? Bonus points if it’ll make me cry.
I just finished Boys in The Boat and that was great, stuff like that or Masters of the Air, Dead Poets Society, Tolkien (kinda), Lord of the Rings, literally any genre just with a kind of camaraderie kind of found family.

Firefly and the movie Serenity, Stand by Me, Flags of Our Fathers, A League of Their Own, The Monuments Men, Memphis Bell...just to name a few.
